Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo is understood to have confirmed that he does not want to be considered to represent Portugal at the Olympic Games this summer.

According to media reports, sources close to the superstar have confirmed that the attacker has ruled himself out of contention for a spot in the Seleccao das Quinas’ Olympic squad, in which he could have been included as one of the side’s ‘over-age’ players.

While Olympic football squads are typically for players under the age of 23, each squad is allowed to select three players who are older than the set age.

However, Portugal will now have to look elsewhere, with Ronaldo—who will likely represent his national side at the European Championships in France—appearing to be out of the running.

The tournament—which is to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil—begins on August 4, with Portugal having been drawn in Group D alongside Argentina, Honduras and Algeria.
