How would you describe the journey so far?</b><br /> The journey has been amazing. I didn’t expect to be here today because when I started hustling in those days, social media wasn’t popular in Nigeria. The first thing that I came across was blogging. And to be honest, when I started in November 2006, the last thing on my mind was that it was going to change my life as much as it has. It was just a place for me to be creative because I love to write stuff down and I didn’t think that ten years from now, this would happen. So it wasn’t something that I envisioned. It’s been an amazing journey, definitely something that I’m extremely grateful for. A lot of us are on social media but not everyone can say that it has changed their lives so tremendously. So I’m really grateful for how far I’ve come.<br /> <br /> <b>Before you started making money from the blog, were you not at some point frustrated?</b><br /> So many times. The worst was definitely September 19 2010. It was my 30th birthday. I was broke, I was angry because I had been doing nothing for a long time and I was still struggling, I was still borrowing money. So I was extremely depressed and very angry with myself. I felt like a failure. I would cry a lot and then open my laptop to blog. I didn’t know that was where God was leading me to. And so, after my 30th birthday, my life really changed.<br /> <div id="adcode"> <ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-5089981496810613" data-ad-slot="6482008575" data-adsbygoogle-status="done" style="display: inline-block; height: 90px; width: 640px;"><ins id="aswift_2_expand" style="background-color: transparent; border: none; display: inline-table; height: 90px; margin: 0; padding: 0; position: relative; visibility: visible; width: 640px;"><ins id="aswift_2_anchor" style="background-color: transparent; border: none; display: block; height: 90px; margin: 0; padding: 0; position: relative; visibility: visible; width: 640px;"></ins></ins></ins> </div> <b>You’ve carried a lot of controversial news, particularly about artistes. What is your relationship with them like, especially Wizkid?</b><br /> I don’t want to talk about Wizkid. To be honest, I have a cordial relationship with other entertainers. I’ve had run-ins with a few of them but in recent times, that hasn’t happened. It was when I was being carefree and careless with stories that I write. But apart from him, in the past year, I’ve not had a big issue with anybody.<br /> <br /> <b>How have you been able to manage it with all the threats that are thrown your way? Doesn’t that leave you scared?</b><br /> The only person that threatened me was him. No it doesn’t scare me. I do more good for them than they acknowledge. Some of them are my friends, some of them have been to my house but the negativity that comes with blogging is fine. Some people will take offence, some will react in different ways. I’ve been doing this for ten years. If by now I’m not used to the backlash, then I should get out of the business.<br /> <b>From the feedback you get, do you feel loved or hated?</b><br /> <br /> It’s a combination of both. I get a lot of hate and I get a lot of love. But I try as much as possible to hold on to the love and not pay attention to the hate because I know the hate is coming from a very different place.<br /> Sometimes when I trend and I see some vile comments about me, I’m like, you’ve never met me, why are you saying these kinds of things about me? I’ve grown such a thick skin, I just look at it and I laugh. I know when people are frustrated and depressed because I have been there. I’ve been depressed and I’ve been angry and my anger was always towards those who are successful and when I say hurtful things about them, it makes me feel better. So I allow them that grace to just vent. I understand that success comes with a lot of hate.<br /> In fact, that is one of the ways to know you’re really doing well. But of course, I get a lot of love. I get a lot of people who tell me that I inspire them and those are the ones I pay attention to.<br /> <br /> <b>Have you lost any valuable friendship because of a story you wrote?</b><br /> Absolutely not; I haven’t. I’ve lost people who don’t agree with what I do but nothing valuable.<br /> <br /> <b>With this your new concept, don’t you think you are taking on too much at a time?</b><br /> I’ve been blogging for ten years and I’m bored. I want to do something else. I’m 36, this is the time I have the energy and passion to run this. Besides, I’m delegating. I have a staff of over 30 people working here. So it’s not too much really. I think people try to limit themselves. I don’t limit myself at all. I feel like there’s absolutely nothing I can’t do.<br /> <br /> <b>You made a video on your birthday where you talked about a lot of things. Why did you do that?</b><br /> I just wanted to talk about it. It was my birthday and I just wished I was married. It’s now that I want to get married. I don’t wish I was married earlier.<br /> <br /> <b>Are you saying you’re not getting proposals from men?</b><br /> I’m getting quite a lot. People say that when you’re successful, men run away. It’s a lie. That is when they chase you the more. But unfortunately I haven’t seen what I’m looking for. It was my birthday and I just wanted to talk about it.<br /> <br /> <b>What are you looking for?</b><br /> I keep telling people. It’s not that men are scarce. They are not scarce. The type of men that some of us are looking for are scarce. If I want to get married next week, I can. I want a man that I can look up to. Somebody that inspires me, somebody that will push me, motivate me; somebody who has had some success in his own career. I’m inspired by successful people. I can’t wait to meet someone like Tyler Perry.<br /> <br /> <b>Does that mean you can’t marry a poor man?</b><br /> No, I can’t marry a poor guy and I’m being honest about it. He doesn’t have to be rich but let him be successful in his own way.<br /> <br /> <b>Have you had to review you standards when it comes to men?</b><br /> When I was 30, my standards were extremely high. But I wasn’t really looking. I was just so focused on work because I’ve always been so ambitious. I wasn’t focused on marriage and kids and I felt like that would draw me back. So I wanted to just do my stuff. It was just recently that I started asking myself some questions. That I started thinking about it. Now, I have only three criteria.<br /> <br /> <b>What are the three?</b><br /> He must be successful. He must be a good man in the sense that he has to be very supportive of what I do. If he tries to stifle me, I’m out. The third one, is the one that likes to eat groceries well (laughs).<br /> <br /> <b>Do you think you’re controversial or just misunderstood?</b><br /> I don’t go out of my way to look for controversy. I think that maybe I’m misunderstood. People forget that blogging, even though it started as a passion, is now a business. There’s Linda the blogger and there’s Linda the person.<br /> Personally, if I was not a blogger, there are some things I won’t pay attention to, because I don’t care. I have things to do in my life. But because I’m a blogger, I have to pay attention to little gossip. I have to pay attention to who is clapping back because my readers wants to see all of that. But personally as a human being, I don’t wish anybody ill, I don’t want anybody to fail, I don’t want anybody to cry or feel bad about comments. I think I’m misunderstood which is fine because people who are close to me know me and those are the people that really matter.<br /> <br /> <b>Kemi Olunloyo once accused you of benefiting from Dasukigate…</b><br /> The reason I didn’t make an issue out of the Dasuki stuff is because it was overwhelming. I bought a house in Banana Island for half a billion and people can’t wrap their heads around it. They start thinking it has to be something shady. Up until the scandal blew open, I never heard about the man Dasuki. So I know I’m not guilty of anything.<br /> <br /> <b>When you get married, will you leave your Banana Island mansion?</b><br /> I will move to the man’s house; as long as it’s not a three bedroom flat.<br /> <br /> <b>Why do you feel comfortable talking about your age</b>?<br /> I read somewhere online where they said I’m 42. Let me tell you, it’s so easy to know someone’s age. Just find out the year they finished secondary school. I finished Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar School in 1997. I was 16 going on 17. So if I’m 42, it means I finished secondary school in the 80s. The reason I talk about my age is because I was a model. In fact when I did my first show in 1998, I wasn’t up to 18. I had to lie that I was older than I was. I was 17 plus. How can I now be 42 in 2016? People already know my age.<br /> </div>

I know it is in the character of those who have been seriously damaged and terribly frustrated by the Nigerian system to want to drop blood by all means. But has it ever achieved anything tangible? The answer is a big NO!<br /> I have been participating in street demonstrations since I entered the then University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) as a pioneer JAMBITE in the year of our Lord 1978. I have lost count of how many demonstrations we’ve had with its attendant collateral damages, including several untimely deaths. Wole Soyinka is over 80 today. He has been fighting to see a reasonable and competent government in Nigeria for as long as I can remember. One of the books I wished to find and read so desperately was The Man Died, a most volatile and controversial prison memoir, written by the Nobel laureate under very excruciating conditions by Soyinka.<br /> Soyinka’s friend, Christopher Okigbo, the famous poet, was not so lucky. He returned home to join the Biafra agitation for self-determination but lost his precious life to one of the dastardliest civil wars known to mankind. That genocide, if I can call it that, did not produce any sincere change at the end of the day.<br /> The gadfly, Gani Fawehinmi, probably suffered more detentions than any soul in Nigerian history. Like the irrepressible abiku, or ogbanje, Gani went in and out of prisons, including the much dreaded Gashua and Kuje and eventually succumbed to the merciless grip of cancer. Gani never saw the Nigeria of his dream. Ditto for the famous educationist, Tai Solarin. I remember the socialist crusader participating in a June 12 procession and being tear-gassed despite being an asthmatic sufferer. He died soon after. Nigeria moved on as always.<br /> The apparent winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential election, Moshood Abiola, was the worst victim of all. After winning an election fair and square, he was rewarded with imprisonment and death. His businesses perished thus throwing his families and countless dependents into total commotion and famish. Still Nigerians carried on as lackadaisically as ever. As a matter of fact, the more you look, the less you are likely to see in our clime. We seem so hardened that nothing can move or touch us. Abiola died nearly 20 years ago but till this day, nothing has been done to honour him. That is who we are.<br /> We continue to live perpetually in strife. Governments come, governments go. Nigeria remains stuck in crisis. Every leader acts as if in competition with his predecessors. Bitterness in never too far away. I often wonder how many enemies Nelson Mandela would have butchered if he was a Nigeria. We simply lack the spirit of forgiveness. Nigeria is bleeding dangerously today as a result of our obstinate and fastidious romance with vindictiveness. Only God can rescue us.<br /> How I wish we could truly practice what our religions preach. Love is common to most faiths. But love is nowhere to be found. Let me go straight to my point. Nigeria is 56 years old as an independent nation. In those energy-sapping years, Nigeria has known no real peace. Nigeria has acquired unenviable notoriety as a sordidly corrupt nation. Different governments came and promised to wipe out corruption but they’ve never been able to even scratch on the surface. The modus operandi have been one and the same and yet we expect different results. More often than nothing, the targets are so predictable. And there are always enough acolytes to support anything under the son.<br /> Today, former President, Goodluck Jonathan is the biggest villain in Nigeria. Everyone who cares knows I was never his fan. His government messed up big time. But there is one thing he did that no reasonable person should ever forget, he averted war in Nigeria last year. He set a new standard for our polluted political climate by calling his main opponent and conceding defeat in an unprecedented manner. We can easily take this gesture for granted because we escaped another massacre in our country but this was a heroic feat deed indeed.<br /> Goodluck Jonathan governed for five full years as President and did his best even if he performed below expectation. I’ve watched with incredulity how we’ve all suddenly become saints and Jonathan and his gang have become the super demons. The biggest crime they committed was to divert monies meant for security. Some were recklessly shared and others were spent mindlessly on funding elections. Very bad, no doubt. It would be nice to retrieve as much as can be traced, certainly. But I wish to humbly submit that this must be done without appearing to be vengeful.<br /> We all know how elections are funded in Nigeria. If we get down to brass tacks, there would be none without blemish. Most elections are funded with proceeds of corruption. Presidential elections alone would easily and readily gulp billions of Naira. It is usually the responsibility of governors to mobilise resources by throwing the states vaults open for the bazaar. This is the reality, whether we admit it or not. When tomorrow comes, we may be prolonging doomsday by engaging in this ding dong affair.<br /> I was particularly miffed by the travails of the erstwhile Presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati. While we should not condone an act of abuse of office, I fail to see what made his case so special when there are many fat cats roaming the streets with their loot. Unless there are other details not known to us, Reuben was given money by a superior. I wouldn’t have expected him to ask or know the source of the fund. Such minor infractions can be overlooked and should be forgiven while the billionaire politicians that litter everywhere should be of primary target. A man carrying elephant on his head should never worry about ants on the ground. We have more than enough problems to grapple with. Some people ruled Nigeria for 50 years and frittered away most of the resources, especially the oil money. If they were allowed to roam freely, we should be careful how we treat Jonathan.<br /> We should not touch the tiger by the tail.<br /> A TOAST TO THE SULTAN OF SOKOTO<br /> It gives me great pleasure to propose this toast to one of Africa’s greatest monarchs, Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad III. Federal Government Pays 81 Months Pension Arrears

The economic recovery plan is expected to guide the economic management and budgeting process over the short to medium-term.<br /> “Government will continue to put in place policies to expand the revenue base, plug leakages in the system, ensure greater transparency and accountability in the use of public funds, pursue job creation and support businesses and investments, especially local investments to grow.<br /> “Approach adopted for the preparation of the plan is highly participatory and all-inclusive, with the private sector being actively involved in the process.”<br /> In his keynote address, the Chief Executive Officer, Economic Associates, Dr Ayo Teriba, proposed a holistic approach to economic reform to encourage the inflow of foreign direct investment rather than demand restriction or price adjustment.<br /> He identified the Diaspora funds as an immediate and steady source of foreign currencies and extensive infrastructural development as sources of the FDI in the long term.<br /> Teriba explained that the impressive foreign investment and growth experienced in the telecommunications sector since 2001 could be allowed in other critical sectors.<br /> He called for the liberalisation of the power sector, rail transport, gas pipelines, power transmission and housing, among others.<br /> The economist suggested an integrated infrastructural development in which pipelines could be constructed underneath the rail tracks and power transmission network above the rail tracks.<br /> The policy directive needed, according to him, is to break government’s monopoly across all infrastructure and allow foreign investors to play more role.<br /> He said, “The experience of the telecoms companies that arrived in Nigeria in 2001 when the government liberalised the sector that had been a government monopoly since independence is a testament to the huge growth and investment opportunities that Nigeria presents.<br /> “Nigeria had only 300,000 telephone lines in 2001, but these companies have raised that number to more than 160 million today.”

Actually I felt like absconding because 27 out of 36 states in Nigeria cannot pay salaries and we know they have no other source than to depend on salaries.<br /> “And I asked any savings? I was told there were no savings. And I asked what have you done on agriculture, power, rails, roads? Nothing. You know more than I do because you move around. I have not been moving around since after elections but you do. How many of the Trunk A (federal) roads are still good enough?<br /> “How much power do we have although there are some elements of sabotage. I was told the money was users to import food and fuel. I didn’t believe the answer and I still don’t believe it. Until now substantial number of people in the east eat garri and groundnut, in the west pounded yam, cassava, vegetables, in the north tuwo which is made from any of the grains, millet, sorghum. They eat it in the night and warm it in the morning and eat it and take fura dinunu in the afternoon. How many of those people can afford foreign food?<br /> “Then they said I should check out the petroleum sector. The legislature dedicated 445,000 barrels per day to the refineries and that is just 60 per cent of our requirements.<br /> “I said OK, what of the 40 per cent? The marketers that are bringing it just present documents, papers are just stamped and monies are taken away. This is the type of things that the Nigerian elites are doing for our own country. When you go back look at your colleagues and encourage them to be truly Nigerians.”

I recall vividly the role most of you played in that very struggle. We became a government when no one gave us a chance to be so. And to sheath our sword in whatever form anger has gotten to us. We noticed and we know that we are a party in majority at the National Assembly and we are a party with majority in the number of governors - state houses of assembly - but we notice there is no cordial relationship between the Governors, the Executive and the legislature. And let me reemphasize that in all these arms of government, it is only the legislature with the executive that are the elected members. Not the Judiciary. And Nigerians will hold us responsible as the executive and legislative arms of government. So, we must act quickly to ensure peace reigns among us.
