Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday cleared
the fog surrounding why it recommended the suspension of Senator Buruji
Kasamu to the leadership of the party and the National Caretaker
committee under the leadership of Senator Ahmed Maikarfi.
Ogun PDP in a statement signed by its Chairman Hon.
Sikirulai Olawale Ogundele and Secretary Hon. Olabode Bankole said
contrary to the avowed claims by Senator Kasamu as the sole financier of
the party, several members of the PDP have contributed in no small
measure to the development of the party.
They alleged that, “But most importantly, to draw the
attention of the public to the fact that Senator Buruji Kasamu in
concert with the former chairman of the party, Mr. Bayo Dayo and some
other members of his executive committee have turned the party’s account
into a fat cow, milking it as if it were some personal estate.
For instance, Mr. Bayo Dayo acting as agent of Senator
Kasamu and using a secretarial staff in his office, Latifat Ahmed
withdrew over two hundred million (N200m) Naira from the party’s current
account with the Zenith Bank (1012611004), Lalubu Road, Oke -Ilewo
Abeokuta branch without specific and clearly stated purpose. Our
investigations further revealed that these withdrawals were handed over
to Senator Kasamu for no clearly defined purpose.”
Ogun PDP further alleged,” that apart from moneys paid into
the party’s account by well meaning, genuine and loyal members of the
party were transferred variously into the account of Omo Ilu Foundation,
a private concern of Senator Buruji Kasamu. We however wondered to what
purpose all these transactions are aimed at. It is not on record that
Omo Ilu Foundation is a contractor with the Peoples Democratic Party.
“We equally discovered that most of the cheques purportedly
written in the name of the Peoples Democratic Party from Omo Ilu
Foundation were returned un-cleared, yet no sooner than they are lodged,
than some mysterious withdrawals were again carried out by the same Omo
Ilu Foundation.”
The party said they had since reported this matter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for investigations.
They listed those suspended to include; Senator Buruji
Kasamu ; Engr. Bayo Dayo ;Chief Pegba Otemolu ; Mr. Semiu Shodipo ; Mr.
Fatai Adeyanju ; Mr. Segun Seriki; Hon. Daisi Akintan, and Hon. Bowale
Solaja , saying their suspension were done in good faith in order to
protect unsuspecting publics from further financial relationship with
them on behalf Peoples Democratic Party pending the ratification by the
national leadership of the party.
