Steven Gerrard: Won the Champions League with Liverpool back in 2005

Steven Gerrard is considering his next career move after his contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy was not renewed.
The former Liverpool captain scored five goals in 34 appearances during his 18-month spell in the MLS but was unable to win a trophy and there have been suggestions he could now opt for Celtic in a bid to end his playing career on a high.

Here, we take a look at his next career options:

Celtic

There has already been reports linking Steven Gerrard with a reunion with former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers up at Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. Their last season at Anfield together was not the happiest for the player as he was left out of some major games but he could be tempted by one last swansong and extend his playing days in an effort to win one more trophy - or more. The Hoops are 10 points clear in the Premiership, are still in the Scottish League Cup and of course will be among the favourites for the Scottish Cup too.

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has already said Gerrard is "always welcome" back at Anfield but any return would be in an off-field role. Gerrard is taking his coaching badges and may see his former club as the ideal place to start a new chapter where he is obviously regarded as an icon having won two FA Cups, three League Cups, the UEFA Cup and, of course, the Champions League in 2005. The Premier League title eluded him as a player but perhaps he can one day get his hands on the trophy as a coach.

Newcastle

Links with Newcastle are inevitable due to the Rafael Benitez factor. It was under the Spaniard's management that Gerrard lifted the Champions League trophy on that magic night in Istanbul back in 2005, while he also won the FA Cup in 2006 as well as the UEFA Super Cup and the Community Shield during Benitez's tenure. With the Magpies eyeing an instant return to the Premier League, they could perhaps see Gerrard's leadership qualities and experience as valuable assets to bring to the squad.

Any Chinese club

The Chinese Super League would certainly be attractive from a financial point of view but it seems highly unlikely Gerrard would be tempted. He struggled to adapt to the long-distance travel in America - a country which spoke his language - and he will not want to take his young family to the Far East.

Paris St Germain

David Beckham famously ended his playing career with a swansong with the French giants in the second half of the 2013-14 season - and another former England captain could be tempted by one more attempt at Champions League football if an approach was made.
  • All bets void if Gerrard retires
