The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today, November
30th, 2016, arraigned one Thankgod O. Agua before Justice M. A. Liman of
the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on a
seven count charge bordering on Conspiracy, Forgery and Obtaining by
false pretense.
The petitioner alleged that the defendant conspired with others now at large to deceive him by producing fake documents which include fake vouchers, purchase orders and procurement documents of Exxon Mobil, Shipserv and NLNG which he acted upon as original thereby losing money to the defendant and his gang.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, A, Osu asked the court to fix a date for the commencement of trial and urged the court to remand the accused in prison custody. However, defense counsel, George Ogara urged the court to grant his client bail pending the determination of the case.
Justice Liman granted the defendant bail in the sum of two million naira (N2, 000,000.00) and one surety in like sum. The surety must own a landed property within the jurisdiction of the court which will be verified by the bailiff of the court.
The matter was adjourned to 21 and 28 February, 2016 for trial and ordered that the defendant to be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail condition.
