Chairman,
House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abdulmumin
Jibrin has urged members of the National Assembly to support President
Buhari’s anti-corruption war.
The
Lawmaker’s reaction in a series of tweets Thursday through his verified
twitter handle @AbdulAbmJ? comes shortly after opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the national assembly withdrew their support for the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The lawmaker wrote, “@AbdulAbmJ “It’s
within anyone’s right to decide not to support the president, but he’ll
continue to enjoy the total support of majority of us in NASS”.
He continued via @AbdulAbmJ, “Let us not mix the commitment and anti-corruption stand of the gov’t with politics”.
Hon. Abdulmumin, representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal constituency of Kano State at the National assembly pleaded with Nigerians to support the President.
“I’d
like to implore Nigerians, especially my colleagues in the National
assembly to leave the President with respect to the war on corruption”.
Some
National dailies and online Newspapers had also reported that Federal
lawmakers cancelled a dinner with President Buhari, probably as a result
of the ongoing crisis in the national assembly.
The
charge of criminal conspiracy and forgery brought against the
leadership of the eight senate by the federal government is tearing the
executive and the legislative arm of government apart.
But the Chairman, House Committee on appropriation, urged members of the National assembly not to distract the President.
“We
must not distract the president but instead give him all the support to
continue the good work he has started for the country.
He then called on the various agencies to respect the rule of law.
“However
I urge the anti corruption agencies to ensure they always abide by the
rule of law and the principles of justice and fairness”.
“We
must all support them and not politicize things when the radar of the
agencies are focused on us. Nigeria must always come first” he wrote.
“It
is petty & predictable to throw blames at the president when all
the anti-corruption agencies are doing is what is prescribed by the
law”.
