South Africa’s President, Jacob Zuma apologizes to the nation and welcomes the Constitutional Court ruling around the Nkandla scandal.

Saying he would pay back the “identified” money and that he “never knowingly set out to violate the constitution”.

He added that there was no deliberate intention to subvert the constitution on his part.

This comes after opposition parties called for the President's immediate impeachment just yesterday when the Constitutional Court found that he and Parliament did not uphold the Constitution when they disregarded the public protector's findings.

The Constitutional Court had also found that Zuma would have to pay for the upgrades at his Nkandla home.

Immediately after his address, the ANC's Secretrary General, Gwede Mantashe also responded to the court's judgement, stating the top six in the ANC unanimously backed Zuma and added that they welcome and appreciate the President's apology to the nation.
