Co-stars Grace Gealey, 31, and Trai Byers, 32, tied the knot in a private ceremony in a mansion on Grand Cayman Island Thursday.
“We’re married!” the bride wrote on Instagram
Sunday. “God is so good. To all who have extended congrats and well
wishes, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Love, Mr. & Mrs.
Byers.”
‘It was a beautiful wedding filled with family and close friends,” a source told E! News. “Some cast members from Empire were there. Grace looked stunning.”
Only about 50 people were invited, according to TMZ, which first carried the report. The bride wore a form-fitting, strappy wedding gown.
Guests dined on steak and lobster and danced to hip-hop, disco and reggae music at the reception.
Gealey and Byers got engaged
last summer. They celebrated her birthday with a romantic dinner at a
Chicago restaurant, during which about 20 of her friends and family
members surprised her, a source had told E! News.
Gealey sported a diamond engagement ring and showed it off months later on FabLife.
“I think
that if two people are mature and they’re able to understand that if
this doesn’t work out—’cause first, I’m not a fan of flings when you
work, cause that’s where it gets a little dangerous,” Gealey said. “I
think that if you do get involved at your workplace, you have to know
that this is something that you want to be invested in, and this is just
not just something that is frivolous and fleeting.”
On FOX’s show Empire, Gealey plays Anika Calhoun, who Taraji P. Henson‘s
character Cookie Lyon famously dubbed “Boo Boo Kitty.” During season
one, Anika was engaged to Cookie’s ex and Byer’s character Andre Lyon’s
father, Lucious Lyon, played by Terrence Howard. It is unclear if he or Henson attended the wedding.
