The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, has revealed that the Nigerian Army has launched a thorough investigation into the killings of its personnel in Rivers State, south south Nigeria.
  The Army chief made the statement on Saturday in Owerri, the Imo State capital, when he paid a courtesy visit on the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, at the Government House.

General Burutai said that the present happening in Rivers State is unfortunate, but assured that the combined security operatives are working assiduously to bring the situation under control as several arrests have been made in connection with the killings.

His mission to Imo State was to familiarise with the officers of the 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze and also assess the security situation in the state, especially as it relates to the issue of kidnapping, cultism, and oil bunkering.

While commending the Nigerian Army for their courage and commitment in fighting terrorism in the north-east and kidnapping in the south-east, Governor Okorocha also implored the Chief of Army Staff to provide more men and logistics for Imo State in order to succumb the security challenges facing the state.

On issues of the Biafra agitations, the Army chief urged all Nigerians to think more of the unity and progress of the country rather than agitating a divided Nigeria.

Earlier, General Burutai addressed officers of the 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze and assured them of a better welfare condition.

The Chief of Army Staff and his entourage proceeded to 82 division Nigerian Army in Enugu to familiarise with the officers.

The Nigerian Army on Thursday, said it lost two of its men from an ambush by unknown men in Abonemma, Akukutoru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The victims, one officer and one soldier, were among the troops on patrol in before a fierce encounter ensued between them and the gunmen.
