Buhari Travels Again! This Time To Equatorial Guinea

This morning, President Muhammadu Buhari has made yet another trip out of Nigeria, this time to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
This trip was made for the purpose of a scheduled discussion with President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo on further measures to protect the people and resources of the Niger Delta and the Gulf of Guinea. It is also in line with the continuation of the Nigerian Federal Government’s efforts to achieve greater security of lives, resources and investments in all parts of country and its sub-region.
  Meanwhile, Nigerians are beginning to loose count of the number of times President Buhari has traveled out of the country since he assumed office. Although, most of the trips are to the benefit of the country, some of them can be avoided or delegated to the vice president, in order to buy more time for Mr President to concentrate on resolving the demanding issues of Nigeria.
However, Buhari is expected to conclude and sign an agreement between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, for the establishment of a combined maritime policing and security patrol committee, during this trip. President Buhari and his host, President Mbasogo, are also expected to discuss and agree on other collaborative measures that will help fight crimes such as piracy, crude oil theft, attacks on oil rigs, arms smuggling and human trafficking in the Gulf of Guinea.
Both leaders will also deliberate on the rescheduling of the joint summit of the Economic Community of West African States, (ECOWAS) and the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) on additional cooperative measures to curb terrorism and violent extremism in Western and Central region of Africa.
Equatorial Guinea was meant to host this summit last year but it was postponed because of Nigeria’s 2015 general elections. In accordance with the main focus and agenda of the trip, President Buhari will be accompanied by the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, and other senior security officials. As scheduled, President Buhari will return to Abuja on Tuesday. Nigerians wish him a safe trip to and fro Malabo and a successful and fruitful meeting also.
