Concerned
 by the worsening conditions of Nigerians as a result of the economic 
recession, the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, said tuesday 
in Ilorin that the Senate upon resumption next week, would probe the 
cause of the recession, stating that it was necessary to know why in 
spite of budgetary provisions, many more citizens have receded below 
poverty line.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“The Senate on resumption will respond 
to the economic crisis with a number of measures including getting 
managers of the economy to give account to the people, making tough 
recommendations to the president on needed changes, formulating 
necessary legislative framework for economic recovery and undertaking 
wide consultations across the private sector,” he told journalists at 
his residence during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Worries about the ailing economy were 
shared also by a former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, 
who offered some tips on the way out of the woods, saying effective 
handling of spiralling inflation, foreign exchange problem, fiscal 
deficit and debts control were key to resolving the current economic 
crisis.</div>

Okonjo-Iweala who spoke on Aljazeera TV 
programme, The Stream, said focusing on the basic issues of 
macroeconomic stability was crucial to fixing the country’s economic 
challenges.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Saraki, in his intervention, explained 
why the legislative interrogation of the executive management of the 
economy had become necessary: “We need to know why the promises of 
external borrowing have not materialised, why devaluation has not helped
 to strengthen the naira, why inflow of foreign currency has continued 
to dry up and interest rate is still very high? Doing this will help us 
to understand where we are, so that we can determine where exactly we 
want to go from here.”</div>

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has given the 
Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar 
Malami, a 7 Day ultimatum to prosecute former First lady, Patience 
Jonathan over $15m found in the accounts of four companies owned by her 
which is currently under investigation for fraud.<br />

<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="more"></a>DailyTrust reports that the anti-corruption agency in
 a letter dated September 13th and signed by its executive director 
Adetokunbo Mumuni, asked the Minister of Justice to prosecute the former
 first lady within 7 days of the receipt of its letter, failing which 
SERAP will institute legal proceedings to compel the discharge of 
constitutional duty in this matter.” The letter in part reads<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Under article 20 of the convention, this government has an obligation 
to prosecute intentional illicit enrichment, that is, a significant 
increase in the assets of a public official that he or she cannot 
reasonably explain in relation to his or her lawful income. The fact 
that the $15m found in the four accounts belong to Mrs Jonathan raises 
serious suspicion or at the very least a prima-facie case of unexplained
 wealth/illicit enrichment, and imposes an obligation on Mrs Jonathan to
 explain and justify the source(s) of the $15m. In the event that she is
 not able to justify, explain or put forth evidence demonstrating the 
legitimate origin of the $15m, SERAP urges you to take immediate steps 
to forfeit the asset under appropriate legal proceedings, and to 
institute criminal prosecution for unexplained wealth in the matter. 
Similarly, section 44 of the Corrupt Practices and other Related 
Offences Act criminalises unexplained or illicit wealth and allows 
criminal penalties and forfeiture if in the course of an investigation 
there are reasonable grounds to believe that a corruption offence has 
been committed, that is, the failure to explain the origin of the $15m 
given present or past emoluments, and other relevant circumstances. Mrs 
Jonathan has admitted that the four accounts belong to her and that she 
is the sole signatory to these accounts. The four accounts in which Mrs 
Jonathan’s $15m was lodged are said to belong to the following 
companies: Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited, Seagate 
Property Development and Investment Company Limited, Trans Ocean 
Property and Investment Company Limited and Globus Integrated Service 
Limited. Mrs Jonathan was given a platinum card and exclusive access to 
the accounts. According to reports, a houseboy, a driver and other 
domestic workers of a former Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to 
former President Goodluck Jonathan, Waripamowei Dudafa, were named as 
directors.”</blockquote>

<p dir="ltr">Boko Haram has released a video of its “Eid-el-Kabir prayer”, during which it threatened to capture President Muhammadu Buhari, whom it described as “leader of the entire infidels”.<br>
The video, released and uploaded on YouTube on Tuesday, shows thousands of the sect’s adherents praying at a large mosque in an unspecified location.<br>
“In this place where God has brought us together, God has brought us together under this roof and we must be Muslims,” the man who led the prayers said over a microphone held by a bearded man dressed in the mould of an Abubakar Shekau.<br>
“God should keep us together. God should keep our families together. May God bless us in this world. May God increase our leaders. Our men our women and our soldiers. Everyone.<br>

A 45-year-old Nigerian based in Pretoria, South Africa, Abiodun 
Israel Banjo has been arrested by officials of National Drug Law 
Enforcement 
Agency, NDLEA for possessing parcels of drugs at the Murtala 
Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos. <br />

According to a statement issued on Monday, Sept. 12th by NDLEA 
spokesman, Mitchell Ofoyeju, the arrest took place during the outward 
screening of passengers on a South African Airline flight to South 
Africa. </div>

3.435kgs with an estimated street value of N31 million in Nigeria</div>

 how the drugs were discovered, NDLEA Commander, Ahmadu Garba explained 
that during a routine luggage check, NDLEA agents 
noticed that Mr. Banjo's two bags contained methamphetamine concealed 
under clothing and food items.

However, the suspect, a graduate of the Technical College
 of Ijebu-Ode from Osun State, denied knowledge of the drug in his bag, 
claiming that a friend gave him the bag in South Africa.</div>

"I work in Pretoria. My friend in South Africa called me saying that 
his brother would give me two bags containing foodstuff to take to him. 
He also promised to give me two thousand dollars. I opened the bags and 
checked thoroughly, but could not find anything criminal. That was how I
 accepted to take the bags," Mr. Banjo explained.</div>

"I was surprised when the drug was detected under the bags. I feel very sad that my friend has implicated me."</div>

NDLEA Chief Executive Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah called on 
members of the public to be aware of tricks employed by drug trafficking

"Drug traffickers recruit mules by enticing them with money. They are
 very clever in concealing drugs, as drugs have been detected in bags, 
electronics, foodstuff and clothes among others. We strongly advise that
 all passengers should endeavor to pack their bags themselves and avoid 
taking bags for others," </div>

The NDLEA boss added that ignorance was no excuse in drug trafficking
 and the suspect would be charged for unlawful exportation of narcotics.</div>

"A person shall be deemed to have exported a narcotic drug or 
psychotropic substance under this NDLEA Act; if he brings to or deposits
 the narcotic drug or psychotropic substance concerned at any time at 
any customs area such as airports, customs port or any other customs 
point generally," Mr. Abdallah explained.</div>

 Syrian nationals suspected of being ISIS members were arrested Tuesday 
in Germany, and are being investigated in connection with November’s 
deadly terror attacks in Paris, authorities said.</div>

morning in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein by special police 
forces — were brought to Europe by the same organization of smugglers

Mr Mugabe also praised the statue.</div>

that he was so grateful that the statue stimulated “a kind of wonder, a

country, after an outcry from rights groups over his characterisation of

prayed for US President Barack Obama’s death, had planned a 
“soul-winning” visit to South Africa at the weekend.</div>

But Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba 
declared the Christian preacher a “prohibited person” following 
objections over his “hate speech”.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Steven Anderson and members or 
associates of his church are prohibited from entering the Republic of 
South Africa,” Gigaba said at a press conference in Cape Town.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“We have a duty to prevent harm and 
hatred, in all forms, against LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual
 and intersex) as against any other person in a democratic state,” the 
minister said.</div>

Anderson has frequently courted 
controversy through his Arizona-based Faithful Word Baptist Church, 
which preaches a literal reading of the Bible.</div>

The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU will begin a warning 
strike from October 2nd. The union disclosed this in a statement signed 
by the Chairman, University of Abuja chapter of ASUU. </div>

been playing games with us; we will start with a warning strike to show 
them we are not jokers. ASUU has being trying to get the attention of 
the Federal Government to intervene in the academic system of

The academic union has been at loggerheads with the Federal government 
over the non-implementation of its 2009 agreement with the FG.  Among 
the demands of ASUU includes the exclusion of Nigerian universities from
 Pension Management Company, non-release of NEEDS Assessment 
Intervention Fund, funding of state universities, payment of earned 
academic allowance and renegotiation of the agreements were part of the 
outstanding issues that have not also been addressed.

Delta State.</div>

The attack confirmed by a leader of the 
group, self-styled Gen. Aldo Agbalaja, came as the Niger Delta Avengers,
 NDA, which ceased hostilities, last month, accused the military of 
harassing old men, women and innocent youths in the region under the

the ex-minister, bringing the haul in Abuja to about N4.08billion of

music is no longer in demand? How do you tell if a record deal – which 
at the time signified the greatest aspirational goal of your music 
career – will become a Trojan Horse?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Let’s not coat it. Kanye West’s GOOD Music ruined D’banj’s career. There, we said it.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2011 was a crucial year for Nigerian music.
 It was the year when the rulers of pop music made a decision that was 
to cost them their dominance. D’banj and Don Jazzy, co-owners of Mo’Hits
 Records had found a way to meet up with Kanye West, where they sold him
 the Nigerian dream and sound. Kanye did buy it.</div>

<em>“He had the courage to go and meet him 
and introduce himself and that he wants to break into America and that 
he has done a song with Snoop Dogg and please listen to the song and 
tell me if it is good. And he understood and he listened to it and he 
liked it. And he asked us to drop by New York when we were going to LA 
for the video shoot with Snoop. So when we got to New York, we called 
them and his manager said we should meet up at Wyclef’s studio and the 
rest is history.”</em></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The rest simply became history. Mo’Hits 
became history due to the irreconcilable differences between the 
business partners. D’banj, ever the opportunist, wanted in on the deal 
from GOOD Music. Don Jazzy hesitated, and wanted none of it. They argued
 and split.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
D’banj revealed this to Olisa Adibua on his chat show, ‘The Truth: <em>“Maybe
 Dr Sid? We came back from New York, and we had a meeting with Jazzy. Me
 and Jazzy. And Jazzy really expressed his discomfort that ‘listen, this
 place is too expensive. We are spending money, we are going to stay 
there, things dey happen for Nigeria, we are already bosses here, we 
don’t need all these…make we just stay </em>here..</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<em>“And I’m like ‘we are almost </em>there,<em>
 like it’s expensive but I know it’s not really guaranteed, because it’s
 a dog eat dog world out there. And in his own words, ‘you can’t leave </em>certainty<em> for uncertainty,’ which makes sense.</em></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<em>“But I said to him that </em>listen brother<em> this is not uncertainty. For Kanye West to see us is not a joke. He saw us in Dubai, </em>na<em> God. Is it not the same Nigeria that we are doing music that took us there.</em></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<em>“And I asked him that, and he said he 
didn’t want to go, he didn’t want us to do it again, he said he wasn’t 
interested. So Jazzy literally said that he wasn’t interested, and I 
told </em>him,<em> because I had sensed it…before the last concert I had
 told the lawyers that I felt that it wasn’t…that’s why we had legal 
papers.</em></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<em>“So they were trying to get him to come
 around, but I understood totally, which is what I said to you. So when 
he came back home, he had a meeting and that was in July, and he said he
 doesn’t want us to do Mo’Hits again. That he doesn’t want us to do 
Mo’Hits again. And I said to him, ‘Please give me 6 months’.</em></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<em>“So I told him to give me 6 months, 
that he should please just…for me I was even trying to sell my shares, 
to convince him again, to sell my shares to someone else, take the 
money, go abroad and try. To do anything I could, because I had seen 
that it wasn’t working, and </em>him<em> and Sid had formed this 
synergy. It was very clear the way…I could see it. He wasn’t very 
comfortable around me, I didn’t understand what was happening, and me I 
didn’t…everybody </em>knows<em> that I don’t have time. I was always on the move.</em></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<em>“I wasn’t always on ground to see, and I
 think that was my mistake – I wasn’t sensitive enough to have noticed. 
And prior to that, if I felt anything, just as you would do as a boss, 
you should do whatever needed to be done. So I told him to give me 6 
months. I remember December, </em>Iwe<em> had a meeting, and everybody 
was there, and Don Jazzy also said the same thing which was after 6 
months. That was December 2011, and he said, that he had thought about 
it, and he wasn’t interested. In fact, not just me, that this one wasn’t
 interested (pointing to others).</em></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<em>“I was heartbroken, I think Kayswitch 
was with them, it was one voice, and I felt like…what’s happening here? 
And that’s where I started hearing few things that people just felt that
 they were not comfortable with me.”</em></div>

The end of Mo’Hits, signaled the music end 
for D’banj. He was signed to GOOD Music, and Kanye West gave him his 
blessings, his chain, a remix of ‘Scapegoat’, and hummed his way into 
‘The Morning’. Cosigns by other artistes helped make the charade 
continue, but the facts remained clear,; D’banj did not release any solo
 project under good music.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
D’banj lost Don Jazzy, lost Mo’Hits 
Records, and lost his momentum. ‘Oliver Twist’ ( a Don Jazzy 
production), kept him alive musically, and so did the 2013 album, “D 
Kings Men”.  But ultimately, the damage was done. He has never 
recovered.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Ever since his split with Don Jazzy in 
2011, there’s been a steady decline of D’banj’s musical powers, even 
though his celebrity went the other way. Each year brings another D’banj
 power move and endorsement deal, but the quality of the music takes a 
hit. 2013’s compilation album “D King’s Men” was a fantastic project 
which still stands as his best DB Records body of work, but it failed to
 catch on, with many attributing it to the lack of love from core fans 
who still blame him for splitting the indomitable Mo’Hits Records.</div>

listeners have always been felt. A few bright spots have made his case 
salvageable; ‘Top of the world’, ‘Feeling the nigga’ and 2016’s 
‘Emergency’ have still kept his case for music credibility alive, but he
 manages to find new ways to come up with less-inspired sounds.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2016 has had his record label undergo 
severe changes, and almost fallen apart. His producer DeeVee split from 
the group, so also did his joker, Tonto Dikeh, who is seeking fulfilment
 from motherhood and other familial concerns. His other signees, 2kriss,
 have been without buzz nor content.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
But he is coming through with two new 
singles for an album. And you begin to wonder if he still has enough 
juice left in the tank to push through another album release. This year 
marks his 11 year in the music industry. Three studio albums, two 
compilation albums, and an EP is a good run for the Nigerian music 
industry, but he intends to change that number with another project.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The singer’s album will be purportedly be 
dropping before the end of the year, and plans are already underway to 
commence the rollout of singles, and other promotional materials. With a
 bashed musical credibility, and a fanbase that pretty much has very 
little contemporary reason to follow the new music, only time and the 
content of his album will be determinants on if there’s enough left in 
D’banj for another D’banj album.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Without GOOD Music, chances are that the 
story would have been different. Maybe the split with Don Jazzy would 
have stilled happened, but for other reasons. GOOD Music hastened it, 
and took away from D’banj, more than it offered.</div>

The
 immediate past Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said on Monday 
that having a handle on Nigeria’s spiralling inflation, foreign exchange
 problem, fiscal deficit and debts control were key to resolving the 
country’s current economic crisis.<br />

Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala, who spoke on Aljazeera TV programme, The Stream, 
said focusing on the basic issues of macroeconomic stability was crucial
 to fixing the country’s economic challenges.<br />

“If you don’t pay attention to the fundamentals of having a stable 
and good exchange rate policy, inflation under control, manageable 
fiscal deficit and debts, there will continue to be trouble in the 
economy,” she said.<br />

Nigeria is facing its worst economic crisis in decades. The economy 
slipped into recession after contracting in the first two quarters of 
2016.<br />

Inflation jumped from 16.2 per cent in July to 17.1 per cent in August 2016, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.<br />

Since the introduction of the floating foreign exchange policy by the
 Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), which freed the Naira from a band of 
N197-N199 to the dollar, the currency has been in a free fall against 
other international currencies.<br />

From about N281 to the dollar at the beginning of the policy in June,
 Naira crashed to about N420 to the dollar shortly before the Sallah 
holidays on Friday.<br />

Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala, a former World Bank Managing Director, told Al 
Jazeera that she remained optimistic that solutions to the country’s 
economic decline could still be found.<br />

Asked what would be her top three priorities to resolve the country’s
 current economic crisis if she had remained the finance minister, Mrs. 
Okonjo-Iweala said she would prefer the current managers of the economy 
talk about it.<br />

“I have contributed the best I could to the country. It is still the 
most interesting country in the world. It is better to leave those who 
are managing now to say what they would do.<br />

“All I can say is that there are solutions. Nigeria is a vibrant 
country. I love it so much. I know it is going to come out of this one 
way or another,” she said.<br />

On if President Muhammadu Buhari were to ask her to come and help in 
resolving the country’s economic crisis, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala said: “One 
of the things you learn as you get wiser is to talk less as you grow 
older.<br />

“I have spent my time contributing to the country. It will be better 
to leave those managing the economy to do what they know how to do.<br />

“I served my country for seven years and it was a great honour. The 
second time was very tough, but it was still an honour. I am not the 
only person who is a repository of knowledge. There are other people who
 can equally try their hands in running the economy.”<br />

On the continental scale, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala, expressed regrets the 
economic gains recorded in Africa have started being eroded in the last 
two to three years.<br />

“On the continent, we have seen a period when the economy was doing 
relatively well. It’s only in the last two to three years that things 
have started to go a bit south.”<br />

She spoke about the job initiative of the Goodluck Jonathan government, YOU-WIN.<br />

“The whole idea was to have a business plan competition. 
Beneficiaries were expected to create jobs to employ six people or more.<br />

“Each created 9-10 jobs. The World Bank did an evaluation of it and 
found it good. I do believe the government should come in. We started a 
peer to peer mentoring. Now, one of the things I want to say is that 
creating employment is not only about struggles, it is about managing 
success,” she said.<br />

On how the anti-corruption war was fought during her time in 
government, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala described it as “a very tough fight”.<br />

“It was tough. I must thank my team. You don’t do it alone. I had the
 support of an economic team in the Ministry of Finance. At the end of 
the day, you need to have some principles,” she said.

Nigeria
 currently imports significant amounts of coal and iron ore despite huge
 deposits of the mineral resources in the country, the Federal 
Government has said.<br />

The Federal Government said this in a document entitled: ‘Road map 
for the Growth and Development of the Nigerian Mining Industry’, with 
the forward written by the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. 
Kayode Fayemi.<br />

According to the report, the country was also importing barites until
 2003 when the Federal Government banned its importation, adding that 
the country had since become a net exporter of barites.<br />

The report stated, “Today, mineral production data in Nigerian mining
 is unclear and inadequate. A reasonable conclusion can be drawn that 
the industry is constrained. However, given the historical 
under-reporting of production by existing firms, together with the fact 
that most of Nigeria’s mineral production is conducted by artisanal 
miners, it is believed that the production figures are understated.<br />

“Mineral revenues are often in one of the two markets: local 
consumption and exports. Local consumption accounts for majority of the 
market, as minerals contributed only about 0.02 per cent of the reported
 exports in 2012.<br />

“In a number of cases, the excess of demand over local production 
makes Nigeria a net importer of minerals. This is despite the presence 
of huge potential for some of these minerals, highlighting the market 
opportunity that exists from import substitution.<br />

“For example, Nigeria imports significant amounts of coal and iron 
ore despite the potential endowment it has. Nigeria used to import 
barites until 2003 when the government banned imports to boost 
production.”<br />

The report added that the sector contributed approximately 0.33 per 
cent to the Gross Domestic Product of the country in 2015 and that the 
contribution was a reversal from the historically higher percentages 
contributed by the solid minerals sector.<br />

One of the most critical factors for creating an enabling environment
 for exploration and mining is investor perception, the report noted.<br />

It stated, “Undue interference by communities and state governments, 
with expectations outside the provisions of the law/regulations, 
cripples investments and the development of the mining sector.<br />

“Uncertainty and inconsistency in state and federal laws, 
interpretation and enforcement will hamper development. The perception 
of a change of regime affecting laws also stalls investment and 
partnership.<br />

“Fiscal policies that remain stable and predictable in the face of 
changing regimes improve transparency and foster good governance within 
the sector.”<br />

The report also highlighted three phases for putting the minerals 
sector on the path of growth. The phases are the short, medium and long 
terms.

A
 former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has said that the 
state has political and economic stability because of a solid 
foundation.<br />

He told reporters after observing the Eid prayers at Dodan Barracks 
praying ground in Lagos, that lack of solid foundation contributed to 
the nation’s current economic situation.<br />

He said economic restrategising and replanning were necessary to achieve sustainable national prosperity.<br />

“The political and economic stability we are enjoying in Lagos today 
is as a result of a solid foundation. Without a good and solid 
foundation, we cannot achieve a sustainable economic prosperity.”<br />

On the hardship in the country he said: “We need to re-strategise and
 re-plan, but that planning period is always a very difficult period in 
any family, organisation and nation.<br />

“That is what we are experiencing now, but it is for a better and stronger future.”<br />

Lagos State Deputy Governor Mrs Idiat Adebule urged Nigerians to 
uphold the significance of Eid-el-Kabir, total trust and obedience to 
God, to accelerate the pace of economic recovery.<br />

Adebule also urged them to celebrate peacefully and reach out to the less-privileged among them.<br />

“We can only enjoy Allah’s favour when we totally trust and obey His 
will. He is our creator and He knows what is best for us as individuals 
and as a nation,” Adebule said.<br />

House of Representatives Leader Femi Gbajabiamila, urged Nigerians to be patient and not lose hope.<br />

Gbajabiamila said President Muhammadu Buhari was making efforts to reform the economy.<br />

“I urge us to be prayerful and by God’s grace we shall get better and stronger as a nation”’ he said.<br />

Chief Imam of Lagos Garuba Akinola-Ibrahim called for greater 
sacrifice from the government and citizens to survive the recession<br />

“In the spirit of Eid-el Kabir, we urge the government to double up 
efforts to avoid our situation from getting to a critical stage which 
can rub off negatively on all government’s achievements so far,” he 
said.<br />

“I also urge the citizens to exercise patience and be prayerful in this trying period.”<br />

Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni called for reflection on the 
significance of Eid-el Kabir and modest celebration to reduce crime.<br />

Owoseni advised residents to be security conscious and cooperate with security agents to ensure a crime-free celebration.

 residents of Sambang Dagi in Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State
 have been displaced as a result of another earth tremor witnessed in 
the area in the early hours of monday.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The incident occurred barely 24 hours after the first tremor was reported at Nok village about 20 kilometres away from Sambang.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) 
reported that the second vibration occurred around 4a.m yesterday, 
leaving shocked residents scampering for safety.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was not immediately clear whether there were casualties.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Earlier, the state government had in a statement urged residents of the affected communities to remain calm.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The government last Sunday appealed for 
calm, and sympathised with the residents of Kwoi in Jaba Local 
Government Area, following the first tremor.</div>

The government said in a statement 
signed by Samuel Aruwan, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to
 the State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, that it had made a formal report to

Following the recent outburst over reports that former First lady 
Patience Jonathan had claimed ownership of a $31.4 million found in the 
account of a company currently under investigations for fraud(read 
here), the Chairperson of Ijaw Mothers Union, Doris McDaniels, has 
replied Patience Jonathan's critics, stating that the former first lady 
can own any amount of money as she was the wife of a deputy governor, 
governor, Vice President and then a President.<br />

“I will commend Mrs Patience Jonathan because if this is the allegation 
against her, then it is funny. So you mean the wife of a former deputy

cannot own this kind of money, yet wife of President Muhammadu Buhari 
that is less than two years in office can travel with the kind of bag  
as alleged recently? Then this is a funny country. If high-profile 
government officials,can own properties in Dubai, yet we say wife of a 
former President can’t own this money, then Nigeria is a laughing stock.

However a lawyer and National Coordinator, Centre for the Vulnerable and
 the Underprivileged, Oghenejabor Ikimi, said the former first lady 
needs to be investigated since her office as a first lady is not known

 Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says 
Nigeria’s economic recession is a phase that “virtually all nations” 
have gone through.</strong><br />
The former Lagos governor, in his 
eid-el-kabir messagae, noted that the economic crunch and nationwide 
belt tightening is merely a “passing phase”.<br />
He urged Nigerians to
 view the hard times as being necessary while stating that the “present 
circumstance” wasn’t wished upon the populace by the ruling party.<br />
Speaking through his <a href="http://thenationonlineng.net/shall-overcome-economic-downturn-says-tinubu/" target="_blank">media office</a>, Tinubu called on every Nigerian to join the government in building a new, vibrant economy.<br />

“This spirit of sacrifice and unselfish

Minister of State for Agriculture, Lokpobiri Heinekein says if Nigeria 
fails to begin the process of producing its own rice, the cost of a bag 
of rice may shoot up to about N40,000 by December this year. He said 
this at a town hall meeting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state this yesterday 
September 10th. <br />

"For your information, we spend about $22bn a year importing food into 
Nigeria. We know how many more dollars they bought and that is why you 
see the price of rice going up. Price of rice was may be N12,000 some

A Russian anti corruption chief has been nabbed with $122million cash 
during a police raid on his home. Russian police seized the haul during a
 raid on the house of Dmitry Zakharchenko, the deputy head of the Energy
 Industry Department of the General Administration of Economic Security

The Director  of media and publicity of the National Youth Service Corps
 (NYSC), Bose Aderibigbe revealed that the NYSC is in dire need of funds
 and resources. Aderibigbe said N10, 500, budgeted by the government, is
 no longer sustainable to purchase a complete set of kits for each corp 
member in the NYSC.
According to The Guardian, Aderibigbe said that out of the 260,000 corp 
members to be mobilised this year, 70,000 are still waiting.

“This year for instance, since the Federal Government does not want a 
situation where youths who are done with tertiary education hang out

October or thereabouts, this outstanding will be taken care of for the 
year.This is not a hopeless situation as people are made to believe. </blockquote>

“It should be noted that once the Federal Government gives us the figure
 to mobilise for a particular year, they back it up with funds to take 
care of that number. We are in need of a lot of funds to ease our 
operations, but we will continue to cry to the government until the 
situation improves.

“As we speak, all 37 orientation camps have boreholes that take care of 
their water needs. The battle to make the camps spick and span took a 
different dimension under the immediate past Director General, Brig 
General Johnson Olawumi, who went the extra mile to ensure that there 
were adequate facilities in camps. </blockquote>

“In those days, when the NYSC visits state governors, we usually went 
with copies of the laws setting us up. And we always let the governors 
to know that state governments have a duty to provide facilities at 
these camps. Of course, in this direction, some state governments 
performed creditably well.

“When I was a state coordinator, I remember former Governor Alao Akala 
of Oyo State, providing the NYSC with a giant Mikano generator. Former 
Governor Martins Elechi, of Ebonyi State, also gave NYSC in the state 
three Mikano generating sets, and Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo 
State, also gave NYSC in the state a power generating set.

“Right now, through the instrumentality of the NYSC, and some state 
governments, all orientation camps in the state have power generating 
sets to take care of their power needs.”

“General Olawunmi would even go straight to see what the toilets look 
like on visiting an orientation camp. Thereafter, he would move to the 
kitchen to inspect the conditions, taste the meals, check out the sizes 
of meats and fishes given to corps members, and ensure that things were 
generally done the right way. </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“He also ensured that more toilet facilities, including mobile toilets 
were put in place for the convenience of corps members. The good thing 
in all of these is that all these steps the incumbent DG, Brig. General 
Sule Zakari Kazaure, I also taking in a bid to lift the scheme higher.”

“The sum of N10, 500 is budgeted by the Federal Government for the 
complete set of kits for each corps member.This includes a pair of 
khaki; two white vests; one crested vest; two pairs of shorts; a fez 
cap; a pair of canvass and a pair of jungle boots. </blockquote>
