Saraki’s Case At CCT Dead, He Is Now Working Towards 2019 – Senator Misau

The
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Isa Hamma Misau has
disclosed that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki’s case at the Code of
Conduct Tribunal, CCT, was dead, stressing that Saraki is now working
towards 2019.
Misau made the disclosure yesterday while reacting to a report entitled “Ndume, Adamu, Ekweremadu eye Saraki’s seat.”

Saraki is facing trial on a 13-count charge of false declaration of
assets while he was the governor of Kwara State. The trial resumes
tomorrow after it was initially adjourned.
But Misau in his reaction said Saraki could not be edged out of the
Senate on the basis of his trial at the CCT because he is in firm
control.

“Saraki’s camp is very powerful and even if he is going, he will be
the one to determine who succeeds him. We, in his camp, are not thinking
of Saraki going, we are thinking of 2019 when he will emerge for the
second time and consolidate on the legislative works he is doing. Our
thinking is beyond this tenure because of his performance.

“His case at the CCT is political because even those who are with
serious cases are moving freely around the country. Saraki’s case is not
embezzlement or misappropriation of funds. His is a case of under or
over declaration of assets.

“As you know, it is an old case brought forward to pull him down. At
what time did they realise that he committed this offence? He was at the
Senate in 2011, without immunity, and they didn’t come up with it. Why
now when he is the Senate president? But whatever it may be, it is a
dead issue,” he said.
Hold PDP Responsible For Continuous Fuel Scarcity – Tinubu Tells Nigerians

BASAM 0 08:03:00

Following
the lingering fuel scarcity that has continued to ravage the nation,
the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola
Tinubu, has asked Nigerians to hold the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
responsible.

Tinubu while addressing newsmen in Lagos at the weekend said PDP
destroyed Nigeria during its 16-year rule by refusing to pursue what was
necessary for the growth and development of the country.

He said, “We want to stay focused and redirect Nigeria. We want to
reverse the decay of 16 years. We are hearing comments from the PDP left
and right. We are saying we want to clear the mess they created. For 16
good years, the PDP destroyed the country. We should not be lamenting
over petrol queues today if they had seen what was necessary and done
what was necessary for this country.
“We can’t be emotional and live in self-denial. They should have done
the Awolowo Road and the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway. If they put priority
on our railroad, if they put priority on electricity generation and
distribution, we will not be in this mess today.”

The former Lagos State Governor, who also dismissed the claim that
Nigerians were dissatisfied with the current APC-led Federal Government,
noted that people only wanted to see the direction of the government’s
economic policy.

“Nigerians are not impatient with the APC government; they just want
to see the direction of the economic policy and want to be certain of
the future. They want to be assured that we will not continue the
leaderless, directionless and hopelessness of the past 16 years.

“The fact is that Nigerians do not want the importation of toothpicks
to continue, we can make toothpicks out of our bamboo trees. Nigeria
does not want to import rice or plastic. Nigeria does not want to
continue in the direction of the past 16 years. What did they leave
behind in our account?

Why should certain things that we bring into this country become our
priority? Why do we have to import those things that we can produce? The
country needs surgical operation in the hands of a very honest
Nigerian,” Tinubu said.
Official: Antonio Conte Confirmed As New Chelsea Manager

BASAM 0 06:19:00

The Italy coach will remain in charge of the Azzurri at Euro 2016, after which he will take the reins at Stamford Bridge having beaten off plenty of competition to land the job
Antonio Conte is the new manager of Chelsea, the club have confirmed, with the Italy boss ending months of speculation by finally penning terms in London on Monday.
The 46-year-old has put pen to paper on an THREE-year contract but will not take charge of the club until after the European Championship in France this summer, where he is looking to guide the Azzurri to only their second continental win.
Chelsea have been looking for a long-term successor to Jose Mourinho since the Portuguese was sacked in December, with popular interim boss Guus Hiddink unwilling to take on the job permanently.

The Blues are still unbeaten in the Premier League since the Dutchman took over – their 15-game streak is the longest undefeated run in the division this season – and still have a slim chance of qualifying for Europe.
The lack of Champions League football has not put Conte off, however, with the Italian beating off competition from the likes of Copa America-winning coach Jorge Sampaoli to land the Stamford Bridge job.
Conte arrives in England with a hugely impressive CV, having won the Scudetto in three consecutive seasons with Juventus between 2011 and 2014 and helping lay the foundations for the Old Lady’s recent dominance of Italian football.
He fared less well in the cup competitions, however, losing the Coppa Italia final to Napoli and failing to progress further than the quarter-finals of the Champions League – even crashing out at the group stage in his final season at the club.
After replacing Cesare Prandelli as Italy manager two years ago, Conte oversaw an unbeaten qualification campaign for Euro 2016, though he will step down to take charge of Chelsea after this summer’s tournament.
Fayose reunites with Aluko , says ‘he’s my son’

BASAM 0 06:07:00

Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, has reconciled with Temitope Aluko, former secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who made startling allegations about the 2014 governorship election.

Lere Olayinka, special assistant to the governor on public communications and new media, posted a video of a meeting between both men in Lagos.

Fayose said: “I’m the father of all, for whatever that happened, I’m the father and I should accommodate everybody.

“Aluko remains my boy, my son. “I am his father; I am his brother. The past is behind us. Aluko remains my boy, my son. Whatever he said in public in the past is gone. It’s time to move on.”

Responding, Aluko said he was glad to reunite with the governor, revealing that he decided to let go of the past in the interest of peace.

“This is about peace, this is about understanding. This is about coming together. This is about family coming together after well-meaning Nigerians stepped in.”

Aluko had claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan released $37 million to Fayose for the election. He said he attended two meetings at Aso Rock, where top PDP chieftains strategised on how to win the election.

Aluko also alleged that the federal government sent 44 special strike teams, consisting of security men who harassed top members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the election.

The Ekiti state government had procured a bench warrant for his arrest, saying Aluko, who testified in favour of Fayose from the tribunal to the supreme court, committed perjury when he later said the election was rigged.

The department of state services (DSS) also picked him up and released him after keeping him in custody for weeks

I Criticise President Buhari Because I'm The Most Senior Governor In Nigeria — Fayose

BASAM 0 05:43:00

Describing himself as the most senior governor in Nigeria, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has declared that his many attacks on President Muhammadu Buhari flowed from his sense of responsibility and not related to any 2019 presidential aspiration as alleged by critics
BUSTED! Saraki's Multi-Billion Hidden Assets Finally Exposed

BASAM 0 05:34:00

#PanamaPapers: Hidden family assets of Senate President Saraki Uncovered In Tax Havens
At least 4 assets belonging to Saraki family, tucked away in secret offshore territories, have been uncovered.

But the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, failed to declare them to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) as required by Nigerian laws.

This revelation, made possible by internal data of the Panama-based offshore-provider, Mossack Fonseca, was obtained by the German newspaper - Süddeutsche Zeitung - and shared by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) with PREMIUM TIMES and over 100 other media partners in 82 countries, could worsen Mr. Saraki’s case.

He's still battling to extricate himself from allegations of corruption.

Mr. Saraki is yet to respond to PREMIUM TIMES’ request for comments. His spokesperson, Yusuph Olayinonu, did not return calls or respond to a text message seeking comments.

But in a written response to ICIJ, the Senate President insisted, through his UK lawyers, that he “declared his assets properly in accordance with the relevant legislation,” and that the charges against him “are both unfounded and politically motivated.”

Last September the CCB slammed false asset declaration charges on Mr. Saraki, accusing the Senate President, among other things, of failure to declare his assets in full.

Under the code of conduct law, a public office holder is required to declare his own assets, those of his wife as well as assets in the names of his children below the age of 18.

In his declaration form, Mr. Saraki listed property owned by his wife, Toyin Saraki, to include a plot of land at Lekki valued at N5 million, which he said was a gift he received in January 1989.

Mrs. Saraki was also listed as owner of a property at 15 Bryanston Square, London W1 and 69 Bourne Street, London.

While the first, which rental income was put at £48,000 with a value of £900,000, was acquired in January 1989, the second, which value was put at £2m and had rental value of £150,000, was acquired for business in April 2000.

However, a fresh investigation by PT and its media partners, has uncovered a hidden London property in the name of Toyin Saraki but which was left out among the assets declared by the Senate President.

The hidden property is located at #8 Whuttaker Street, Belgravia, London SW1W 8JQ. It has title number NGL802235.

Similarly, the Senate President stated in his assets declaration form that his wife held an account in Eco Bank Broad Street, Lagos, where she had N1.5 million at the time he became governor in 2003.

She also maintained an account in Coutts & Co Strand, London, where she owned £450,000 and $125,000 in addition to $3 million in Northern Trust International Banking Corporation Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner.

Mrs. Saraki was also listed as maintaining substantial shares in European and American Trading Company, Tyberry Corporation and Eficaz Limited just as she held 500,000 shares, valued at £500,000, at P.C.C (U.K) Ltd. He was however silent on the number of shares the former first lady had in Haussmann and Tiny Tee (Nig) Limited.

Elaborate as the declaration in the name of Mrs. Saraki appeared to be, PT can authoritatively report that apart from the undeclared London property, three additional overseas assets in the name of the wife of the Senate President were hidden from the authorities and are missing from the assets declaration form.

Investigations reveal that Mrs. Saraki owns secret companies in some notorious tax havens.

The hidden assets
The first, Girol Properties Ltd, was registered on August 25, 2004 (a year after Mrs. Saraki’s husband became governor of Nigeria’s north-central state of Kwara) in the British Virgin Island (BVI).

Company documents show that Mrs. Saraki owns 25,000 numbers of shares with a par value of US$ 1,00 each, and was appointed the first and only director of the company.

It however remains unclear what businesses Mrs Saraki transacted with the company. Mrs Saraki however, in a letter to ICIJ, through her lawyers, denies ever owning any shareholding in Girol Properties.

The second company, Sandon Development Limited, was registered in Seychelles Island on January 12, 2011 and has Mrs. Saraki and one Babatunde Morakinyo, (a long-term personal aide and friend of Mr. Saraki) of 11 Okeme Street, Lagos, as shareholders.

While incorporating that company, documents show, Mrs. Saraki bought a curious service from Mossack Fonseca & Co, the Panamanian firm that helped her to register the firm.

Perhaps to avoid being identified as the beneficial owner of Sandon, the Senate President’s wife asked Fonsecca to provide nominee directors for the company. Nominee directors are sometimes used in tax havens to conceal real owners of companies and assets.

She then made an undertaking indemnifying the Panamanian company “in respect of all claims, demands, actions, suits, proceedings, costs and expenses whatsoever as may be incurred or become payable by you in respect of or arising out of any member or employee or associate of your company or associated companies holding any office, directorship or shareholdings in the company or by reason of or in consequence of any act or decision made by any such person or company in connection with the management and/or administration of the said company.”

Shortly after the company was incorporated, Mrs. Saraki used it, in July 2011, to buy the property on Whuttaker Street, Belgravia, London SW1W 8JQ.

The property, acquired from Renocon Property Limited, a company registered in the British Virgin Island, was never disclosed to Nigerian authorities as required by the country’s code of conduct law.

The third hidden company in the name of Mrs. Saraki is Landfield International Developments Ltd., a company registered in the British Virgin Islands on April 8, 2014. It’s registration number is 1819394 while its registered office is 1 Akara Blog., 24 De Castro Street, Wickhams Cay 1, Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Island.

According to Mossack Fonseca, the registered agent of the company, Mrs. Saraki, at least until January 27, 2015, was sole shareholder and beneficial owner of the company which had two nominee directors – Glaisd Alie Limited and NewGombe Limited – both appointed on September 2, 2014. Its agent says Landfield is authorized to issue a maximum of 50,000 no par value shares.

“In so far as is evidenced by the documents filed at the Registered Office, the Company is in existence and, in good standing,” Mossack Fonseca recently said of Landfield in response to an enquiry by one Laura Templeman, a Senior Associate for Ogier Group, a law firm based in the British Virgins Island. “According to the documents filed on the Company’s file as at 27th January, 2015, there are no actions, pending or threatened against the Company and no action has been taken to wind up the Company or to appoint a receiver or manager.”

Mrs. Saraki claimed she sold her shares in the company to a third party in January 2015, but PT is yet to sight any document to that effect.

In July 28, 2015, Mrs Toyin Saraki, who was the first lady of Kwara State between 2003 and 2011, was interrogated by Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in relation to awards of contracts during her husband’s tenure as governor.

The EFCC has not taken further actions since her interrogation, and nothing has been heard of the case since then.

A troubled husband
Mrs Saraki’s husband, Bukola, who is Nigeria’s third most powerful official by virtue of his position as Senate President, is facing a 13-count charge of alleged false declaration of assets.

He is being tried by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, a special court that tries public officers for any contravention of the Code of Conduct for Nigerian public officers as spelt out in the Fifth Schedule of the Nigerian constitution.

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) were established to enforce “a high standard of morality in the conduct of government business, and to ensure that the actions and behaviour of public officers conform to the highest standards of public morality and accountability.”

The Code of Conduct Bureau had on September 16, 2015 slammed charges on Mr. Saraki, accusing him of offences ranging from anticipatory declaration of assets, to making false declaration of assets in forms he filed before the Bureau while he was governor of Kwara state.

The Senate President was also accused of failing to declare some of his assets, acquiring assets beyond his legitimate earnings, and operating foreign accounts while being a public officer – governor and senator.

The offences, the charge said, violated sections of the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended.

Mr. Saraki is also said to have breached Section 2 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act and punishable under paragraph 9 of the said Fifth Schedule of the Constitution.

The Senate President has denied wrongdoings, saying the case was politically motivated and that he was merely being persecuted for emerging the President of the Nigerian Senate against the wishes of his political party, the ruling All Progressives Congress, which preferred a different candidate.

But this fresh revelation regarding hidden assets in tax havens might fuel the allegations against Nigeria’s third most powerful official and strengthen the prosecution’s case against the politician.

The Saraki family and ownership of offshore companies
Apart from Toyin Saraki, another member of the Saraki family popped up repeatedly as PT and its partners conducted a year-long investigation into the leaked Mossack Fonseca internal documents, which contained 2.6 TB files, involved 214,488 entities, and revealed hundreds of details about how former gun-runners, contractors and other members of the spy world use offshore companies for personal and private gain.

Laolu Saraki, brother to Senate President Saraki, also has several footprints in offshore financial havens, documents show. A number of shell companies are connected to the younger Saraki.

He is sole shareholder in some of the companies while sharing ownership with some business partners in others.

For example, documents show that Laolu is the owner of Polly Capital Holdings Ltd registered in Niue, a small island nation in the South Pacific Ocean.

Another document showed that after some years, Laolu brought in another person as co-owner. The company is now co-owned with a certain Richard Pembroke, who has 25,000 equity shares, just like Laolu.

Laolu’s other offshore companies are co-owned with his associates. Among the co-owners are Kojo Annan, son of former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan; Obi Asika; Olufela Ibidapo who are all known figures in Nigeria.

Laolu and Kojo Annan hold equal shares of 25,000 in Blue Diamond Holding Management Corp. The duo, along with Mr. Asika, also own Sutton Energy Limited, registered in the British Virgin Island.

Mr. Asika owns 15,000 units of shares, the same amount owned by Laolu Saraki and Kojo Annan. Mr. Asika was a Senior Special Assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan, and is closely connected to the Sutton Group.

Mr. Asika’s profile on the website of the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), of which he is Board member, refers to him as Founding Partner & Executive Director, Sutton Group from June 1999 to October 2002.

The connection between Mr. Annan and Mr. Asika seems clear, as Mr. Annan sits on the Board of Mr. Asika’s another company,Dragon Africa. Additional documents show that the trio – Laolu, Kojo and Asika – also co-own Sapphire Holding Ltd., a company located in Samoa, a tiny Island of an estimated 194,320 people in the South Pacific.

Company documents also indicate that Ensol Limited (Environmental Solutions), registered in the Republic of Seychelles, with registration number 028376, partly belongs to Laolu.

The company is co-owned with Ama Annan, a relative of Kofi Annan (former UN Secretary General), who was appointed director on May 19, 2006 but ceased to be director on July 2, 2008.

Another Nigerian, Olufela Ibidapo, was then appointed to replace her on January 4, 2010.

Mr. Ibidapo is the current Head of Corporate Affairs at Heritage Bank, a successor bank to the defunct Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria, largely owned by the Saraki family but whose operational license was revoked by the Central Bank of Nigeria in January 2006 following the re-capitalisation policy in the banking sector.

The bank however returned with a new name (Heritage Bank) in 2012 following the order of the Federal High Court, compelling the central bank to restore its operational permit after it declared that it had amassed the required capital base to return to business.

It however remains unclear why the Saraki’s incorporated the offshore companies linked to them or what businesses they transacted with the entities.

While that may not be the case with the Sarakis, some business people in Nigeria and elsewhere are known to have created Shell companies offshore for a host of dodgy business reasons, which include hiding assets, avoiding tax or as fronts for illegal deals. Shell companies are however not entirely illegal, and not all owners use them for dubious purposes.

We have done nothing wrong – the Sarakis
Mr. Saraki and his wife denied any wrongdoing. Responding to separate written demands for comments, the couple maintained that it is not illegal to hold shares in offshore companies.

In a letter to ICIJ by the London-based law firm of Discreet Law, Mr. Saraki said he declared his assets properly in accordance with the relevant Nigerian legislation.

Mrs. Saraki, in a separate letter to the ICIJ through another London-based law firm, Harbottle & Lewis, also insisted that she “made all required disclosures in relation to her shareholdings.”

In their separate letters, the couple threatened to sue should the ICIJ and its partners proceed to publish information about the undeclared offshore assets, with Mrs Saraki saying any publication concerning her private financial information infringes on her privacy and breaches the Data Protection Act 1998.

Will Fitzigibbon (International Consortium of Investigative Journalists), contributed reporting to this story.

Sen. Misau Reveals Those Behind Saraki’s Travails

BASAM 0 12:52:00

Chairman
of the Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Isa Misau yesterday revealed
that those behind the travails of Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the
Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, are some hardliners in the
administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Tribune reports the Senator as stressing that what was needed to
resolve the Saraki matter was political solution, adding, however, that
some hardliners in the administration are stalling the solution.
Speaking on the possible takeover of the Senate by the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, in an event of Saraki’s removal, Misau said, in
an interview in Abuja, that the senators of APC would do all within
their powers to defeat the PDP if it came to producing another Senate
president.
According to him, “What my friend, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, said will
not happen, because the APC caucus of the Senate will, under no
circumstances, allow Dr Saraki to be removed.
“But I understand the larger implication of what Nwaoboshi is saying,
because our majority in the Senate is very slim, which means we need to
be careful and that is why we need to find a political solution to this
crisis and this trial of the Senate president at the Code of Conduct
Tribunal,” he said.
Misau also clarified that senators of the All Progressives Congress,
APC, recently decided to close ranks to ensure there was unity of
purpose, adding that the meeting had nothing to do with the travails of
Saraki.
He also noted that the Senate president remained popular among
senators across the geopolitical zones, saying: “I am a Muslim and I
know that nobody can be a leader without the will of the Almighty Allah.
But I can tell you today that 99 per cent of the senators are solidly
behind Saraki. So what we call closing of ranks is actually for us to
unite behind our leadership in the Senate, behind the Federal Government
and also behind President Muhammadu Buhari.”
Why I Didn’t Call Jonathan After Chibok Girls Were Abducted By Boko Haram- Shettima

BASAM 0 12:41:00

Governor
Kashim Shettima of Borno State has said he did not call former
President Goodluck Jonathan to brief him after Boko Haram abducted over
200 school girls from Chibok, because he knew that security agencies
must have briefed the president of the development the day it happened.

Mr. Shettima said as president, Mr.
Jonathan had wide resources to keep him abreast of serious national
security issues on a daily basis.

Mr. Shettima was responding to an
inquiry which sought to determine why the governor waited for almost
three weeks expecting the president to reach out to him over a major
incident that happened in his domain.

The governor had said recently that Mr. Jonathan took 19 days to telephone him to ask about the abduction.

He made the remark while receiving
former President Olusegun Obasanjo whom he praised as having a better
record of contacting governors of crisis- prone states on a daily basis.

“In our own case, Your Excellency, after
the Chibok abduction of over 200 schoolgirls in April, 2014, it took 19
days for me to receive a call from the Presidency,” Mr. Shettima said
to Mr. Obasanjo.

Analysts have accused the governor of
not also taking the security of his state serious enough to have to wait
for the president to call, and not contact him.

Mr. Shettima spoke through his Special
Adviser on Communication, Isa Gusau, who assured that his comments were
the governor’s position.

Mr. Gusau said he “had it on good
authority that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was well briefed by
security agencies soon after the abduction and this is to be expected
given the magnitude and for the fact that as at that time, Borno was
under a State of Emergency as declared by the president, which made him
directly in charge of security issues in Borno and happenings there”.

“So, ?when the Chibok abduction took
place on April 14, 2014, Governor Kashim Shettima who is Chairman of the
State Security Councils remained within Borno State as he was expected
to do, to build public confidence and presided over series of daily
security council meetings held at the Government House in Maiduguri to
analyze the situation and developments, to identify strategies and to
coordinate deployment of security responses to containing the
emergency,” he said.

Obiano Targets Rural Areas’ Development With Road Projects

BASAM 0 12:08:00

The Governor of Anambra State is optimistic that the Iyiora-Anam Bridge in Anambra West Local Government Area and other ongoing road projects will open up the rural areas and provide better access to an oil producing community of the state.
Governor Willie Obiano and the Commissioner of Works, Mr Lawrence Chinwuba on Saturday inspected the projects that have reached advanced stage, with the contractor giving the assurance that the projects would be ready by May.

The bridge which is 108 metres in length, with a height of about 13 meters, is critical to the road project, as it makes for easy accessibility of the community by heavy duty trucks that will be plying the road on completion. The road leads to the oil producing community of the state.

The Governor expressed satisfaction with the quality and the pace of work on the entire road project during his inspection tour.

It is a massive road construction on the 7.8 kilometre Iyiora-Anam Road in Anambra West Local Government Area which is a critical project due to the swampy nature of the area, as it is always flooded each year and the intervention of the state government in fixing it has brought relief to the people.

The contractor, Mr John Nasir, said the bridge was designed in consideration of the high level of flood experienced in the area.

In continuation of the projects’ tour with other stakeholders, the Governor inspected the Mmiata-Anam-Nzam Road, where two kilometre of earth work out of the whole 11 kilometre road has been done by the contracting firm with high hopes of delivering the project by December.

The Governor said that the reason behind embarking on the project in spite of the economic crunch was to ameliorate the suffering of the people of the area who are seemingly forgotten by every administration in Anambra State due to the impossible terrain of their area.

The last project inspected was the Kwatta flyover which was over 85 per cent completed.

The flyover bridge, aside decongesting the heavy traffic always experienced at the junction, will boost the aesthetic landscape of the capital city.

It is the last of the three bridges initiated by the Willie Obiano administration and expected to be completed in April this year.
Four killed as ‘cultists’ break loose in Ilorin

BASAM 0 11:54:00

Four persons were killed in Ilorin during a fight that broke out between members of two rival cult groups in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.

The clash occurred at Babako, Ita-Amodu and Agbo-Oba areas of Ilorin metropolis between Saturday night and 4 am on Sunday.

Democracy can’t survive under Wike, says Amaechi

BASAM 0 09:06:00

Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, says democracy cannot survive under Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state.

Describing Wike as a threat to free and fair election, Amaechi alleged that Wike sent thugs to disrupt the collation of votes for Ikwerre local government area (LGA) in the legislative rerun election in the state.

Amaechi accused Wike of attempting to blackmail the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to announce result in favour of PDP in LGAs where the election had not been concluded.

“Wike’s riotous comments on Saturday is disgraceful and shameful. His resort to blackmail, threats and more violence is a clear danger to the practice of democracy, to free and fair elections in Rivers state,” read a statement issued by Amaechi’s media office

“You would recall that Wike has been threatening INEC and INEC officials. Before the re-run elections, he threatened INEC officials coming to conduct the elections to write their wills before coming as if they were coming to die in Rivers state.

“Sadly, an INEC adhoc staff, a youth corper was murdered. This is a classic case of the owl crying in the night and the baby not waking up in the morning. He threatened INEC before the elections and an INEC official sent to conduct election was murdered on election day, what other evidence do we need to know who is responsible for the death of the INEC official?

“Wike is a loose cannon, threatening INEC with violence, fire and brimstone. This is intolerable and completely unacceptable. No democracy can survive with Wike’s kind of attitude and disposition to elections. Wike can’t just go on and on threatening crisis, war and more violence just because of his desperation to win elections.”

On Ikwerre LGA, Amaechi said: “The problem in Ikwerre LGA election was caused by the same Wike who sent his goons to the LGA collation centre to disrupt the collation. The collating officer for the LGA, Dr. Allwell Egeonu told the press and it is on video, that he was lucky to escape alive as thugs, hoodlums invaded the Ikwerre LGA collation centre in Isiokpo, that they were shooting for over 30 minutes and everybody had to run for their lives. The Wike goons took away all the materials.

“According to the INEC Collating official, nothing was collated in Ikwerre LGA. And this man’s story is on tape. He spoke to the media. The collating officer for Ikwerre LGA also went to the INEC resident electoral commissioner (REC) in Rivers state, reported what happened and also wrote about it to the State REC. A copy of the letter is available for all to see.

“The video is also available online. Many media houses reported it and showed the video.”

“So what result for Ikwerre LGA is Wike talking about? The man INEC sent to collate the results for the LGA, Dr. Egeonu says there is no result for the LGA because he didn’t collate anything, yet Wike is all over the place disgracing himself that Amaechi lost his LGA. He’s all over the place, threatening crisis, threatening INEC with fire and brimstone, for INEC to release a result that does not even exist, in the first place. You can now understand the kind of desperate fellow we are dealing with here. This must not be allowed to continue. Wike cannot hold an entire state, hostage. He’s a clear danger and threat to the practice of democracy, and free and fair elections in Rivers state. If he’s not threatening crisis, fire and war against Rivers people, he is orchestrating and organizing violence against the people, the same people he swore to protect. This is condemnable, utterly reprehensible and unacceptable.”

10 things we deduced from Wizkid versus Linda Ikeji saga

BASAM 0 08:43:00

So earlier today singer, Wizkid attacked popular blogger, Linda Ikeji on her Instagram page, for publishing a story about the quit notice he got on his home in Lekki, Lagos.

A couple of hours after the attack, Linda Ikeji fired back at the singer for his ‘childish behavior’.
She took to her blog to address the situation by bashing the Starboy act, and also denied ever sleeping with any of Wizkid’s directors or anyone associated with him.
It didn't end there...Wizkid responded again via instagram.

Well, here are the things we learnt from the saga so far:
1. Wizkid is not 25 years old....

"And no, darling, you’re not 25! We know your real age! Continue to have an amazing career while I watch and continue to celebrate you. Kisses”

2. Wizkid’s Porsche Panamera which he bought in 2013 for a reported N14M was bought on lease aka hire purchase.

Oh and by the way, did I mention that his Porsche car is also on hire purchase? Oh shit, I just mentioned that!

3. Linda Ikeji doesn't get mad when peeps mock her for being single at her age..she is used to it.

“So my darling little ‘friend’ Wizkid came on my IG page this morning to blast me for writingyesterday that he was given quit notice at the Lekki home he claimed he bought some years ago, which he actually rented. He threatened to beat me up…called me an ugly old bitch…(I’m ugly? lol) says I don’t have a man (crying over that..) and called my mum a loser…(what a child).”
“Anyway, all that don’t matter, people have said worse to me…

But she plans to make it end soon!

" I live a celibate life..most of the time. (Though, that has to end soon…I’m getting old and missing out on that part of life…lol).”"

4. Linda is team #NoSexTillYourWeddingNight

I feel sex should only happen when you’re in committed relationship (that is if you can’t wait till marriage) and I recommend celibacy for a long as you’re not committed to someone. There’s absolutely no dignity in sleeping around and messing around with different men. It’s ugly and God don’t like ugly. So no, I’m not that woman, and will never be that woman.

5. Linda and Wizkid have never met

"First and foremost, I’ve never met Wizkid one on one. I’ve only seen him once in real life on stage at a show a few years ago.

6. Wizkid once reached out to Linda for a mutual understanding

“All I know is that his beef with me started a long time ago but he decided to start bashing me online after I refused a meeting with him. A few months ago, he asked his PR people to contact me, that he wanted to talk to me. For some reason, he thought I didn’t like him and I was hurting his image online. He wanted to see how I could write more positive things about him but I turned down the meeting.”

7. Linda is trying hard not to make friends with the entertainers in the industry

“I am cordial with some of them…many of them I have never met. I try to stay away from gatherings where they are because the more friends you make in the entertainment industry, the less you can write. And that will inadvertently affect your work. The few ones that I call acquaintances, it’s hard to write about them because you feel you’re cool with them and even when you write, they call you to complain. So, the fewer ‘friends’ I have in the entertainment industry, the better my job will be.”

8. Wizkid wants Linda to join hands with him to build a better and not a bitter world

9. Wizkid just built a house for his mum

10. Despite all, Linda still thinks Wizkid has an amazing talent
“Not that I have anything against him, I sincerely don’t! I think he’s an amazing talent and one of the few music stars in Nigeria with a midas touch. So this wasn’t personal.

Adesina: Buhari sold his house to get his child forex

BASAM 0 08:38:00

Femi Adesina, special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, says the president sold his property to access foreign exchange (forex) for his child’s education.

Adesina, who could not confirm if the president got forex from official sources or the parallel market, said one would have to ask the president himself.

Speaking in an interview with Osasu Igbinedion on The Osasu Show, Adesina said the central bank of Nigeria (CBN), is experiencing a paucity of forex.

Corroborating Adesina’s stance, the president himself had earlier said in an interview with Al Jazeera that it would henceforth be “tough luck” for those who are (or wish to school abroad) to access forex”.

“Those who can afford foreign education for their children can go ahead but Nigeria cannot afford to allocate foreign exchange to those who decided to train their children outside the country,” he said in March.

Asked if the president could afford the education of his children abroad, Adesina said: “You will need to ask him.”

“Don’t forget that it was in the public domain even before he became president that when one of his children needed to go abroad he had to sell his property; maybe it was his house in Lagos or somewhere,” Adesina said.

“Anybody that wants to train a child abroad must be sure that he or she can afford it. If you can afford it no problem.

“At a time like this when there is paucity of foreign exchange, what the president is simply saying is that central bank may not be able to provide forex but you can always buy your forex at the parallel market if that is what you want.”

Though the CBN has not officially banned the access to forex for education and medical bills, the president has said explicitly, that the country cannot afford it

Fayose Plotting To Contest Presidency With Sheriff In 2019? PDP Leaders Rejects Them

BASAM 0 08:08:00

Some power brokers in the Peoples Democratic Party are plotting to counter moves by the current Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff to transmute into the party’s presidential candidate in 2019.

There is a belief within the party that Sheriff and Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, are planning to jointly run for the presidency on the ticket of the PDP come 2019.

Could this be the reason Fayose has been attacking Buhari, so people will say he is PDP's voice?

A reliable source within the party told PUNCH that Fayose backed Sheriff for the chairmanship position as he (Fayose) had plans to be Sheriff’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election.
Sheriff, a former Governor of Borno State, had said that God “used Fayose to make me chairman.”

PDP, in control of two northern states (Gombe and Taraba), has zoned the presidency to the North in 2019.

A member of the Board of Trustees of the party from the North-East who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there was no way both men would be allowed to fly the party’s ticket.

The source, a party man of years standing, said, “This is a joke of the century. These two are controversial. Sheriff has not even been allowed into the party fully.

“Now, they are saying he wants to be President. It isn’t possible. That will signify the death of the party as millions would either defect or go and form another party.”

A source within the party said some party chiefs were bothered by Sheriff and Fayose’s close relationship. In recent times, both men have attended social events together including the wedding of Fayose’s niece.

He said, “Sheriff is rich but he is not the richest northern politician in the PDP. He does not have the backing of the northern elements in the PDP given the fact that he is still quite new in the party. Sheriff’s tenure is meant to end by May but there is a plot to elongate his tenure till 2018 and in the process, gain control of the party structure. He will then resign and run for the presidency but we will not allow him.”

The source added, “Already, supporters of Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State and former FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, are spoiling for a fight as both also have presidential ambitions. In the current dispensation, the governors are two of the most influential PDP politicians from the North.

“Fayose has obviously miscalculated. He is going in October 2018 and his immunity will end seven months before Buhari’s tenure ends. With the way he has been attacking President Buhari, I don’t know how he will survive without his immunity within that period. Petrol subsidy returns, FG to pay N5.8bn in April

BASAM 0 07:53:00

With the open market price of premium motor spirit (PMS) rising to N92.34, the federal government has returned to petroleum subsidy, as it insists on retaining the current price.

According to the petroleum product pricing regulation agency (PPPRA), the government will begin to pay N5.84 on every litre of petrol sold from April 1, 2016.

The template also revealed that on every metric tonne of PMS, the federal government would pay a subsidy of at least N7,824.84.

With a consumption level of at least 33 million litres per day, the federal government would pay N5.782 billion on subsidies in April alone – if the template remains unchanged.

Though the federal government never really removed subsidy, it didn’t have to pay subsidy based on the global prices of crude oil in the first quarter of the year.

Farouk Ahmed, immediate past executive secretary of PPPRA, said in February that the FG was saving N13.81 on every litre of crude sold.

He however added that the money made by the federal government in over-recovery would be saved for a rainy day – to pay petrol subsidy, when the prices spike again.

Assuring that the pump price of petroleum products would not be increased, PPPRA said the pump price of Kerosene, which was not affected by the new template, would also remain unchanged.

In a subsequent statement by Lanre Oladele, head, corporate services at PPPRA, the agency said: “The NNPC has 41.73 per cent of the total allocation, while the rest of the oil Marketing Companies got a total allocation of 58.27 per cent.”

The statement quoted Sotonye Iyoyo, acting executive secretary of PPPRA, that the agency would retain the retail prices of N86.00 for the NNPC and N86.50 for the other marketing companies.

It added that the pump price of Household Kerosene (HHK) would also remain unchanged from what it was in the last quarter.

“Therefore, marketers are advised to ensure that there is no price distortion in their respective retail outlets,” she said.

PPPRA said it would continue to monitor the global oil market performances and make reasonable changes consistent with the newly-adopted price modulation principles.

It urged depot owners to strictly adhere to the prevailing truck-out policy made by the agency, to ensure that petroleum products get to their designated retail outlets nationwide.

The agency warned against hoarding products, saying there are no plans to raise the prices.

“PPPRA is resolutely committed to the sustenance of its reform initiatives, in order to further guarantee adequate supply of products nationwide.

“We therefore assure Nigerians of our total commitment to service delivery, in the quest to deliver on our mandate to the people of Nigeria.”
Linda Ikeji Replies Wizkid

BASAM 0 06:34:00

Read What She Said below

So my darling little ‘friend’ Wizkidcame on my IG page this morning to blast me for writing yesterday that he was given quit notice at the Lekki home he claimed he bought some years ago, which he actually rented. He threatened to beat me up…called me an ugly old B!tch…(I’m ugly? lol) says I don’t have a man (crying over that..) and called my mum a loser…(what a child).

Anyway, all that don’t matter, people have said worse to me…what I wanted to address is the part where he said I slept with his director and he left me in a hotel…that one I will definitely want to address because some people actually believe it. That my dear friends, is a lie! Please continue…

First and foremost, I’ve never met Wizkid one on one. I’ve only seen him once in real life on stage at a show a few years ago. I’ve never met anybody who is his director. Guess he put that line in his comments to defame me. You that mad that people now know the house is not yours? Lol.

Trust me, if I knew someone was Wizkid’s director, I’d rather kill myself than sleep with him or any other entertainer for that matter (except maybe he’s my husband..hehe) because I know how some of these entertainers are…they kiss and tell a lot. You can’t afford to be messing around in their circle. So, no, I have NEVER slept with Wizkid’s director. I live a celibate life..most of the time. (Though, that has to end soon…I’m getting old and missing out on that part of life…lol)
I’ve always been an advocate of women respecting their bodies and owning their own. And I feel S3x should only happen when you’re in committed relationship (that is if you can’t wait till marriage) and I recommend celibacy for a long as you’re not committed to someone.

There’s absolutely no dignity in sleeping around and messing around with different men. It’s ugly and God don’t like ugly. So no, I’m not that woman, and will never be that woman. Nice try, Wizkid!
Having said that, I’m sure, you wonder why Wizkid is so mad at me? To be honest, I don’t know either. All I know is that his beef with me started a long time ago but he decided to start bashing me online after I refused a meeting with him.
A few months ago, he asked his PR people to contact me, that he wanted to talk to me. For some reason, he thought I didn’t like him and I was hurting his image online. He wanted to see how I could write more positive things about him but I turned down the meeting. Not that I have anything against him, I sincerely don’t! I think he’s an amazing talent and one of the few music stars in Nigeria with a midas touch. So this wasn’t personal. I just didn’t want to meet him. If he lobbies me then it means I won’t be able to write anything about him anymore…and my job is to write…about everything, including entertainers.

I am cordial with some of them…many of them I have never met. I try to stay away from gatherings where they are because the more friends you make in the entertainment industry, the less you can write. And that will inadvertently affect your work. The few ones that I call acquaintances, it’s hard to write about them because you feel you’re cool with them and even when you write, they call you to complain. So, the fewer ‘friends’ I have in the entertainment industry, the better my job will be.

So Wizkid can bash me all he wants…but I will continue to do my job. Maybe he thinks the more he bashes me, then I will stop writing about him? Won’t work. But meanwhile, if he tells a lie about me, I will address it. LIB plans to be around for a long time…some of these people will come and go! :-).

Thanks everyone and Wizkid fans for reading my response.

Oh and by the way, did I mention that his Porsche car is also on hire purchase? Oh Sh!t, I just mentioned that! And no, darling, you’re not 25! We know your real age! Continue to have an amazing career while I watch and continue to celebrate you.
Kisses

Nigeria Customs Promises To Intensify Efforts On Fight Against Smuggling

BASAM 0 05:41:00

The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit Zone C has promised to intensify efforts in the fight against smuggling in the country.
The Area Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service FOU Zone C Haruna Mamudu disclosed this in Owerri, the Imo state capital while taking journalists round their recent seizures at the Abia/Imo command.

He said since smugglers have decided to continue to cause havoc on the nation’s economy even in the face of the dwindling economic situation in the country, men and officers of the Nigeria Customs are now better trained and more committed to fight the menace of kidnapping in the country.

He added that between the month of January and March, the command has made about 70 seizures of different goods with duty paid value of 663 million Naira.

Comptroller Mamudu reiterated that there are no more hiding place for smugglers in the country as men and officers of the Nigeria Customs Service have promised to intensify their efforts in the fight against smuggling in the country, which has continued to inflict a devastating blow on the nation’s economy.

He therefore advised those still trapped in the illicit business of smuggling to desist from such business in their own interest.

The command has however called on all members of the public with useful information about smugglers to always make such information available to men and officers of the Nigeria Customs for prompt action, hopefully proper and availability of information will help fight smuggling in the zone.

Trump Predicts ‘Very Massive Recession’ In U.S.

BASAM 0 05:39:00

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump predicted that the United States is on course for a “very massive recession,” warning that a combination of high unemployment and an overvalued stock market had set the stage for another economic slump.
think we’re sitting on an economic bubble. A financial bubble,” the billionaire businessman said in an interview with The Washington Post published on Saturday.

Coming off a tough week on the campaign trail in which he made a series of missteps, Trump’s latest comments bring him back into the limelight ahead of Tuesday’s important primary in Wisconsin where he trails in the polls.

The former reality TV star said that the real U.S. jobless figure is much higher than five percent number released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“We’re not at 5 percent unemployment,” Trump said.

“We’re at a number that’s probably into the twenties if you look at the real number,” he said, adding that the official jobless figure is “statistically devised to make politicians — and in particular presidents — look good.”

Trump said “it’s a terrible time right now” to invest in the stock market, offering a more bleak view of the U.S. economy than that held by many mainstream economists.

The interview was bylined by the Post’s Robert Costa and famed Watergate reporter Bob Woodward.

A real estate magnate, Trump has made appealing to blue-collar workers a hallmark of his bid for the Republican nomination for the Nov. 8 presidential election, often blaming unemployment on the outsourcing of U.S. jobs and facilities to countries such as China and Mexico.

Trump vowed in the interview to wipe out the more than $19 trillion national debt “over a period of eight years,” helped by a renegotiation of trade deals.

“I’m renegotiating all of our deals, the big trade deals that we’re doing so badly on,” he said.

A Country In Search Of A Miracle by Reuben Abati

BASAM 0 05:35:00

"You look tired”
“Ha, my brother. Thanks for being observant. I have been trekking.”
“Trekking?”
“I went to buy fuel at that fuel station by the Estate gate. I had to abandon the car there. On my way back home, I could not find okada or any other form of transportation.”
“No wonder you are sweating.”
“All the tricyclists and the okada people claim they have no fuel.”
“It is good for you big men to have a taste of what poor people go through. This fuel scarcity is an effective leveler. It is no respecter of persons.”
“I can’t wait for April 7 to come.”
“What’s special about April 7?”
“That’s the day we are told this scarcity will end, and there will be no more scarcity of petroleum products.”
“You mean a government official actually made such a promise?”
“Yes”
“Then, that official still has a lot to learn. In this kind of matter, you must never give a deadline because you never know. Nigerians will record the date, pretend to be optimistic and wait for you. If you don’t deliver on the said date, you will be branded an incompetent liar!”
“Really?”
“Trust me. Never set a deadline. Never say things such as we will put an end to the Boko Haram menace by June ending. We will deliver 10, 000 MW of electricity by December, and there will be fuel across the country by so-so-and-so date?”
“But I think April 7 is a sure date”
“I like your optimism. You mean by April 7, the pipeline vandals would have stopped stealing?”
“Some concerned Nigerians, particularly Pastors, I understand have been helping the Federal Government to appeal to vandals. They have been telling the vandals that it is not a good thing to steal petrol that belongs to all of us.”
“You want to stop oil theft and pipeline vandalism by preaching? Does anyone know who the vandals are?”
“You know we are a religious nation. When everything fails, we preach. I won’t be surprised to hear that any pipeline vandal who repents will be recommended for a National Honour!”
“In that case, what are you still doing here? You too should become a pipeline vandal, repent and get honoured. Or you don’t want a national honour?”
“Actually, I’d rather ask the vandals to give me fuel from their private depots, so I won’t have to face the stress of looking for fuel.”
“But I thought we were depending on the importation of refined petroleum products. Where are the major marketers?”
“They are there, but they say they can’t help because market forces are now obeying command-and-control, centralized orders which are not good for business.”
“I know. I know. The climate has changed. There is no more free money to share in the name of subsidy. Let the marketers continue to grumble. You know, sometimes I actually feel that if the NNPC can quickly get its acts together and Nigerians can endure a little, this may actually be our opportunity to free Nigerians from the threat of oil marketers.”
“What threat? The marketers are doing business. If the refineries work and fuel supply across the country is well managed, we should not be in this situation. If you frustrate the marketers, whose crime is that they feed off state inefficiency, and you have no alternative in place, this is what you get. The issue is also one of ideological confusion between capitalism and socialism.”
“It is a shame that at a time the international price of crude oil is dropping, Nigerians are having to pay an arm and a leg to get fuel. Right now, a litre of fuel is about N250”.
“It’s more. That is if you get it to buy.”
“Wait a moment. You are panting. What’s that wheezing sound? You may need to see a doctor.”
“I can’t remember when last I trekked.”
“Fuel scarcity is good for you then?”
“How can this suffering be good for anybody? Do you know how many families are now treating heat rash? Not to talk of hundreds of Nigerians who have died looking for fuel?”
“Just see a doctor. If you trek for about 1,000 metres and you are now looking like you want to pass out, then for you fuel scarcity is a major help. If you didn’t have to look for fuel, you’d be dying slowly and you may never know. I think every big man should in fact go look for fuel and trek a little, and listen to the people on the street. Good exercise.”
“You must be joking”
“Well, as it is, it is the poor who are benefitting from the crisis. Many lower class Nigerians now trek to work. They can’t afford the high cost of transportation, so they just hit the road with their feet.”
“You must be kidding me”.
“Two days ago, I saw a long stretch of trekkers, returning from work, moving from Victoria Island to the Mainland, looking like they have accepted their fate.”
“Too much trekking can kill.”
“Looks like that former Minister who once recommended that Nigerians should use the bicycle is about to be vindicated at last. The bicycle will be our best bet under the circumstances.”
“Stop being funny. Families will use the bicycle to take children to school? Or Madam will go to the market riding a bicycle?”
“Nigerians must learn to embrace change. Our problem is that we don’t always see the good sides of everything. Are you aware that this fuel scarcity crisis has created many jobs?”
“You mean it has resulted in many job losses. With the rise in the cost of goods and services, many companies have had to lay off staff. If you spend half of your profit on generating electricity and buying fuel at cut-throat rates, you’d have sooner or later to cut costs. The first casualties are the workers. Even big companies can no longer pay salaries. Small and medium scale enterprises are folding up.”
“In your estate?”
“What do you mean in my estate?”
“Because you see in this life, when some people are crying, some people are smiling. All those boys selling black market fuel in jerry cans by the roadside, I hear they are praying that there should always be fuel scarcity. Many of them are now multi-millionaires.”
“Profiting from other people’s agony. Is that your understanding of how a proper economy works?”
“I am an optimist. Those boys selling fuel are very happy. If there is regular supply of fuel tomorrow, they wont’ be happy.”
“Please stop this cynicism.”
“Cynicism? Look, if this thing continues beyond April 7, don’t be surprised if you see me by the roadside also hawking fuel in jerry cans. I will add some swag to my own; organize the jerry cans nicely and put up a visible sign-board with the inscription: NNPC Mega Station! I have been making enquiries.”
“Your mates are aspiring to own fuel stations, become major marketers, or even own oil fields, your ambition is to sell fuel in jerry cans.”
“Some of those boys selling fuel in jerry cans are university graduates. I did my research. You do yours.”
“You are exaggerating”
“No, I am not. You mean you have not seen Ph.D holders in this country who are working as drivers or running pepper soup joints or selling pure water? You better change your mentality. My friend, try and change.”
“It is not that bad, please.”
“Okay. Are you aware that many graduates are ready to join the Nigeria Police as constables? And they will be glad to be posted to checkpoints where they can check vehicle particulars, and the pockets of motorists.”
“Pockets?”
“Yes. Why do you think there has been such a massive rush for jobs in the Nigeria Police. The Police recently placed an advert asking for applications. The two websites for online application crashed within 4 hours.”
“Wonderful.”
“They are looking for just 10, 000 new recruits. They received more than 8, 000 applications within one hour. If the portals did not crash, there would have been over a million applications.”
“Na wa o”
“Na wa ya o. We really need a miracle to happen.”
“No fuel. No electricity. No rainfall, either, as if God is holding on to the rains. Everywhere is so hot. I hardly sleep at night.”
“I still think you should see the doctor. And luckily for you, you may not have to pay the hospital.”
“How do you mean?”
“The Minister of Health has just directed all teaching hospitals and government-owned hospitals to treat patients free of charge.”
“Indigent patients or every patient?”
“We are all indigent, my friend.”
“But I don’t know why you take the Minister serious. You and I know he is just talking. No hospital will listen to him. And by the way, is he in a position to give such directives to state-owned hospitals? Even the ones owned by the Federal Government, do they have enough funds to embark on free healthcare? Government officials just must talk.”
“You can’t say that until you find out.”
“No. I don’t need to find out. I know.”
“Just take care of your health. I don’t want it said that you slumped while looking for fuel.”
“I’ll be fine”.
“Nigeria too will be fine. You remember that baby girl who was shown looking malnourished, and emaciated four months ago. Adacheka. And the boy now called Hope who was found in Akwa Ibom, left for dead, emaciated and sickly, in January. When I see the pictures of both children and how they have been saved, I think of our country, Nigeria. Miracles still happen.”
“I don’t believe in miracles any more.”
“Why not? Nigeria will soon start operating on nuclear energy level.”
“Really? People look for miracles when they are desperate or losing hope. In football, for example, Nigerians are looking for miracles right now. The Super Eagles have disappointed the nation. Indigenous coaches have failed us. From Stephen Keshi, to Austin Eguavoen, Samson Siasia and Sunday Oliseh, no hits, back to back, all na failure.”
“You don’t become a successful coach and manager just because you once captained a team. You need technical skills. You need the right people.”
“That-is-the-point!”
